BBC reveals first look at “provocative” new drama from team behind The Jetty

The BBC has revealed a first look at its “provocative” new drama Wild Cherry.

Written and produced by Mood star Nicôle Lecky, this six-episode series delves into the dynamics of two mother-daughter pairs living in an affluent neighborhood called Richford Lake.

Lorna (played by Carmen Ejogo) is a highly accomplished, multi-racial entrepreneur hailing from North West London who built her success on her own merits. On the other hand, her friend Juliet (Eve Best), was born into the affluent, guarded neighborhood they both reside in, enjoying privileges from birth.

Grace (played by Imogen Faires) and Allegra (Amelia May), the friends of these two women, are not only besties but also enjoy the lavish lifestyle offered by their mothers. Yet, a surprising scandal at their exclusive school stirs up conflicts, causing Juliet and Lorna to pick allegiances.

Beneath the peaceful surface of a seemingly perfect town, hidden truths and deceit begin to spread like waves, gradually eroding the veneer and hinting at the entrenched snobbery and unsightly aspects that lie concealed.

Initially, the images offer a sneak peek into the opulent lifestyles of our main characters, showcasing events like parties, exclusive schooling, and lavish interiors. In a photo capturing the quartet, mothers can be seen demonstrating their protective instincts by sitting near and gently guarding their daughters with subtle gestures.

Created by the same group that brought you “The Jetty“, “Wild Cherry” is portrayed as an unapologetically candid exploration of mother-daughter bonds set against the backdrop of social media, secretive apps, and constant peer pressure.

The ensemble is completed by Sophie Winkleman, Daniel Lapaine, Hayat Kamille, Isabelle Allen, James Murray, Jason York, Katarina Čas, Nathaniel Martello-White, Sonita Henry, Tara Webb, Will Bagnall, and Hugh Quarshie. (The cast list is now more natural and easy to read.)

Meanwhile, writer Lecky also stars as a series lead, as well as serving as an executive producer.

Wild Cherry, which is currently filming in Surrey, will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
