BBC returning drama with Ashley Jensen lands release date
As a dedicated gamer who’s spent countless hours solving mysteries in virtual worlds, I can hardly contain my excitement for the return of “Shetland”! With its gripping storylines, stunning island backdrops, and a cast that feels like old friends, it’s like stepping into a new level of an immersive detective game every week.
The BBC has announced a release date for season 9 of Shetland.
This year, I was thrilled to learn that the detective drama I adore has been renewed for a ninth and tenth season! Ashley Jensen, who brings Ruth Calder to life so brilliantly, and Alison O’Donnell, who embodies Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh with such finesse, are both set to return.
As per the latest update from Radio Times, the popular series “Shetland” is set to return to our television screens on Wednesday, November 6th. The ninth season will premiere at 9 PM, with episodes being aired on BBC One and also available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.
Actors Steven Robertson, Lewis Howden, and Anne Kidd, who portray DC Sandy Wilson, Sergeant Billy McCabe, and forensic pathologist Cora McLean respectively, are scheduled to return for the new season as well.
Regarding the upcoming double series renewal, Jensen expressed his delight about revisiting the Shetland Isles once more to portray the intricate character of DI Ruth Calder. The response to the previous series was phenomenal and he’s eagerly looking forward to delving deeper into the mystery.
As a gamer, let me tell you, the Shetland Isles left me spellbound – undeniably one of the most captivating and singular film sets I’ve visited. Can’t wait to hop back on that little plane and embark on another journey there soon!
Information about the forthcoming storyline remains undisclosed at this time, but we can expect some fresh characters to join us in season 9, among them being Ian Hart, renowned for his role in “Mr Bates vs The Post Office.
In addition to the main cast, we’ll have Robert Jack (from “Damaged”), Lesley Hart (known for “River City”), Jimmy Yuill (“EastEnders”), Vincent Regan (“One Piece”), Stuart Campbell (“SAS Rogue Heroes”), and Nalini Chetty (“Six Four”) joining us as well.
Hart expressed his excitement about the upcoming journey to explore the beautiful Shetland Islands, a destination he’s longed to see, especially since he’ll be doing so while involved in such an amazing production.
Shetland season 9 will air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer on November 6, 2024.
