BBC responds as Olly Rix makes shock remark about Call the Midwife exit: “We do not accept this”

According to the BBC, they do not endorse Olly Rix’s assertions that he did not receive proper treatment or respect when he left the show ‘Call the Midwife‘.

In a conversation with HELLO!, the actor who portrayed Matthew Aylward in the period drama before his departure last year, expressed difficulty discussing his departure and mentioned that he wasn’t satisfied with how things concluded.

Rix mentioned, “Discussing that series isn’t my cup of tea – I prefer not to dwell on it.” He went on to express gratitude, stating, “I’m quite fortunate. Most of my jobs bring back fond memories, but eventually, you let go of the past and focus on new endeavors.

Regarding that specific project, I wasn’t satisfied with how it concluded, felt a lack of honesty and regard from them, and overall, didn’t appreciate it. I believe it’s better to move on and not dwell on it too much anymore.

In their own statement, a representative from the series stated: “We do not tolerate this. Call the Midwife is a drama that takes great pride in fostering a compassionate, welcoming, and caring work environment, and we are recognized for the sense of family on our production set.

The representative went on to disclose that the production team is actively filming the 15th season of the show at present. They expressed eagerness about unveiling this thrilling new season to their cherished fanbase.

Rix, who was on the show for three years, expressed feeling extremely lonely and cut off during a tough time, stating: “Being in this line of work can be isolating, especially when you encounter challenging times. Unfortunately, it seems as though you have to deal with such situations largely by yourself. People may not always offer support or protection.

Although it was a rather melancholic period in many ways, I now view it as one of those peculiar incidents when, despite enduring something uncomfortable, I find myself thinking, ‘Wow, this is an exceptional part of my life’s journey.’

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Rix, who charmed us in shows like “Our Girl” and “The Spanish Princess,” is currently gracing our screens on BBC’s “Casualty.” This talented actor has recently become a permanent part of the cast, stepping into the role of clinical lead Flynn Byron this year. I can’t wait to see his performance unfold!

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
