BBC radio legend dies after incredible two-decade career as devastated colleagues pay tribute

Legendary broadcaster Charlie Partridge passed away, prompting a flood of sympathies from admirers and peers.

For more than two decades, the radio host successfully managed BBC Radio Lincolnshire, garnering widespread acclaim for his outstanding contributions.

A torrent of tributes poured in for the long-serving radio personality, with his ex-BBC News Foreign Correspondent and coworker, Jonathan Charles, expressing a poignant sentiment on platform X.

He said: ‘I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Charlie Partridge.

‘More than 45 years ago, he taught me a lot about broadcasting at BBC Nottingham.

‘He was a great guy and we stayed in touch, occasionally swapping messages in the years since.

‘Sometimes discussing Springsteen. My thoughts are with his family.’

It’s unfortunate to learn about Charles, John. He was an exceptional individual who strongly advocated for authentic community radio.

‘He was also very kind and supportive. Thoughts with his family.’

John Hess expressed his sorrow too by saying: ‘Just like many others online, I was deeply saddened upon learning about Charlie Partridge’s passing yesterday.’

This evening, I’ll be posting the Lip Dub Lincoln video once more as a tribute to Charlie Partridge, the brilliant mind behind it, who sadly passed away. He was the former BBC Radio Lincolnshire Editor.

In 2016, when I came back to BBC as a freelancer for BBC Radio York, Charlie had taken on the role of Acting Editor. From our very first day together, we hit it off, sharing stories about local radio experiences throughout the years.

‘Thoughts are with Charlie’s family and many friends in broadcasting. RIP.’

Following the unfortunate passing of Simon Marlow, a radio presenter who had been with the British Forces Broadcasting Service since 2007, on June 27 in London, comes the news.

In 1987, the presenter started his career in radio as a freelancer, and since then, he has worked at various UK radio stations such as Radio City, 2-TEN, Chiltern Radio, and Classic FM.

In time, he gained recognition as a well-known figure at BFBS, contributing not only on air but also assisting with the production process behind the scenes.

Throughout his tenure at BFBS, Simon was assigned to various locations worldwide such as Afghanistan, Cyprus, Brunei, Germany, the Falkland Islands, and Northern Ireland.

Renowned for his profound affection for music and his dedication to uniting the military community, Simon’s voice served as a consistent comrade to soldiers deployed globally.

He was described as a ‘force of nature’ by colleagues.

In the year 2020, amidst the Coronavirus outbreak, Simon found himself residing in Gibraltar, with plans to retire a short while later across the border in Spain.

The broadcaster was most recently based in Northern Ireland working as a station manager for BFBS.

Accolades have been abundant for the celebrity, with BFBS CEO, Ben Chapman, among those praising him as someone who ‘made an impact.’

Regardless of where Simon was or who he was with, joyful laughter was never far away. He had an incredible knack for leaving a positive impact.

It was announced with deep regret by the official BFBS X account that our cherished coworker, Simon Marlow, has passed away.

Simon has been employed by BFBS globally as a radio host and producer, with his most recent role being the Station Manager at BFBS Northern Ireland.
