BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills reveals sweet reaction to replacing Zoe Ball

Scott Mills, the fresh face on BBC Radio 2’s morning program, admitted that he wept upon discovering he would be succeeding Zoe Ball as the host.

During an interview with The Mirror, Mills recalled the moment when his agent shared the good news.

Following his instruction for Mills to take a seat, his representative inquired, “‘Would you be interested in hosting The Radio 2 Breakfast Show?’, and that’s when I shed tears while wearing my bathrobe,” the announcer shared, explaining the situation.

“I fully sobbed… It’s a massive gig and that isn’t lost on me at all.”

After I managed to quiet down from crying, I found myself in a thoughtful state, contemplating something like, “I recall feeling a little sad because I didn’t get The Radio 1 Breakdown Show, but if I had it then, would I be where I am today?

Mills has appeared on BBC Radio 2’s morning program, starting his broadcasting career at the age of 16 and spending more than two decades working for BBC radio.

Yet, he characterized the fresh role as an unexpected development, remarking: “I find myself experiencing the pinnacle of my career at this stage in life.

On Monday, January 27th, Mills stated that his morning show will feature an enjoyable blend of witty callers whose humor is so contagious that you might find yourself gasping for breath from all the laughter.

He also revealed the advice Ball shared with him after his appointment.

He mentioned that getting enough sleep should be his top priority, since Zoe had told him so.

6 unforgettable years came to an end for me as the host of the Radio 2 breakfast show, wrapping up my stint in December 2024. What a ride it’s been!

The presenter concluded her final broadcast expressing gratitude, stating it was an “extraordinary honor,” and further emphasized, “It’s been truly a blessing to work on this program… Quite amazing to be the initial hostess, and I assure you, I won’t be the only one – ladies, remember, you can accomplish anything.

In the spring of 2025, you can tune into Radio 2 again to hear Ball’s return. More information about her upcoming program is still to come.
