BBC Radio 2 announces Zoe Ball’s Breakfast show replacement

As a seasoned gamer of life’s radio waves, I must say, this news has me all tingly with anticipation! Scott Mills, a familiar and friendly voice I’ve grown to love over the years, is taking the helm at BBC Radio 2‘s weekday breakfast show. It’s like witnessing an epic level-up in real life!

BBC Radio 2 has announced Scott Mills as the new host of the station’s weekday breakfast show.

Starting in December, a different Radio 2 DJ is set to replace Zoe Ball, who announced her decision to step away from the early morning show, effective November 19th, following six years of leading it.

For more than two decades now, Zoe and I have been cherished friends, sharing our journeys within the same radio family, first at Radio 2 and later at Radio 1. As he spoke, he reminisced about our shared history. He acknowledged her exceptional work on this show for the past six years, and with great enthusiasm, he expressed his anticipation about taking over from her.

From the very start, when I was making shows as a child for just my mom to watch, every path I’ve taken has eventually brought me to this wonderful opportunity,” he remarks.

It’s an incredible fulfillment of a long-held aspiration to carry on the legacy of Sir Terry [Wogan], Chris [Evans], and Zoe by taking over as the host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

Currently, Mills hosts the afternoon program on BBC Radio 2 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Starting in January, Trevor Nelson will take over as the host of this program.

Nelson is moving on from his Rhythm Nation show, which airs Monday through Thursday evenings at 10 pm, to host a daytime slot instead. However, he’s assured us that the new show will maintain a similar structure.

He mentions that his popular “Five Seconds to Name” guess-the-artist game will join him, making it possible for both regular and new listeners to participate. Additionally, he expresses gratitude for the daily opportunity to amuse the nation on BBC Radio 2, referring to it as a great honor.

On Fridays, DJ Spoony’s popular radio program “The Good Groove” will transition into a show that airs four times a week, starting from 10pm every day (Monday through Thursday). These new time slots were previously held by Nelson.

The duration of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco program is being increased from one hour to two hours. Starting this Friday evening, the show will air between 9 and 11 pm, replacing DJ Spoony’s previous time slot.
