BBC quietly adds popular Australian mystery drama that ‘keeps you guessing until the very end’
The BBC has added Australian mystery drama The Last Anniversary to its streaming service.
Last year, I learned that the broadcaster nabbed the rights to adapt Liane Moriarty’s 2005 book with the same title. They didn’t spill the beans about when we could expect it on our screens right away.
Over the weekend, the BBC stealthily uploaded all six episodes of The Last Anniversary to iPlayer. This move took place following its broadcast on Binge in Australia earlier this month, when the series had already concluded.
What to Read Next
As a curious gamer, I find myself immersed in the enigmatic world of “The Last Anniversary.” This captivating tale stars Danielle Macdonald from “The Tourist” and Teresa Palmer of “A Discovery of Witches.” In this gripping adventure, I step into the shoes of a woman who unexpectedly inherits a house on an island filled with secrets. Among these secrets lies the haunting mystery of a young couple that vanished 70 years ago. The quest to unravel this puzzle is mine to conquer!
Upon obtaining an island home from her former boyfriend’s great-aunt Connie, Sophie Honeywell (Palmer) seeks a new beginning, although she encounters less than welcoming attitudes upon her arrival.
40-years-old and unmarried, Sophie finds herself drawn to a mystery left behind by Connie – a hint that perhaps she may soon meet the man who will be her ideal match…
In addition to the cast of “Good Omens,” you’ll find actress Miranda Richardson, Helen Thomson from the series “Colin From Accounts,” Susan Prior known for “Animal Kingdom,” Claude Scott-Mitchell from “The Dry,” Charlie Garber hailing from “Barons,” Uli Latukefu of “Young Rock,” and Jeremy Lindsay Taylor who is recognized for his work in “Home and Away.” Each brings their unique talents to the production.
The film titled “The Last Anniversary” is helmed by director John Polson, known for his work in “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” The script was crafted by Samantha Strauss, who also worked on “Nine Perfect Strangers.” Nicole Kidman serves as an executive producer for this project.
On Amazon’s review section for the book “The Last Anniversary“, Reese Witherspoon expressed that the writing is so captivating it draws you in immediately, and further mentioned that the tale maintains an air of mystery that holds your attention right up until the final chapter.
The Sunday Express commented that Moriarty writes in a lively, clever, and mischievous manner. Meanwhile, Woman & Home praised the book as an engaging, suspenseful, and secret-filled drama.
Regarding the response to the show, it boasts a robust 86% positive rating based on 7 critiques on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment. The Guardian has labeled the series as both tender and enigmatic.
The Last Anniversary is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
