BBC presenter Kirsty Wark, 70, becomes a grandmother for the first time as her daughter gives birth to a baby girl

Kirsty Wark is now a grandmother! Her daughter, Caitlin Clements, recently welcomed a baby girl, as Wark announced on Instagram.

The 70-year-old broadcaster, who left Newsnight in 2024 after three decades, shared a photo of their new baby sleeping peacefully in a bassinet.

Caitlin, a 35-year-old television executive, and her husband, Callum Galloway, recently welcomed a daughter named Maisie.

Kirsty shared a picture of the new baby online, writing a joyful message: ‘We’re thrilled the baby has arrived safely! I’m absolutely overjoyed to be a grandmother.’

Fans quickly filled Lauren Laverne’s comment section to celebrate the exciting news, with Laverne herself writing, ‘How utterly fab. Congratulations!’

Alan Cumming, host of The Traitors US, chimed in with: ‘Congrats to all and much love.’

Author Justine Picardie added: ‘So adorable! Many congratulations to you all.’

People shared their congratulations and excitement, calling the baby ‘adorable’ and a ‘beauty,’ and expressing joy for the parents. Messages included heartfelt congratulations and lots of love.

Kirsty, currently the host of Radio 4’s Front Row, is married to TV producer Alan Clements. They have a son together, James, who is a 33-year-old actor.

Kirsty Wark has reported on numerous general elections and significant global news stories. She’s also well-known for hosting the BBC2 arts show The Late Show, as well as her own programs, Words with Wark and The Kirsty Wark Show.

Kirsty received two awards from Bafta Scotland: Journalist of the Year in 1993 and Best Television Presenter in 1997.

She was also honoured with a BAFTA Fellowship earlier last year.

Oh my god, you won’t BELIEVE what she did! Some MP, Andrew Rosindell, was practically begging for them to start playing the national anthem on TV again, and she – my queen! – didn’t even hesitate to respond! She never backs down from a debate, and honestly, that’s one of the things I love most about her. She just had to have her say, and it was glorious!

At the conclusion of the Newsnight program, she announced they were pleased to play a song, and then they aired a clip of the Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen.” This song had been banned by the BBC when it came out during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Kirsty also has experience with more lighthearted television, having won the title of Star Baker on The Great British Bake Off.

As someone who’s always enjoyed being in the public eye, I’ve had some fun opportunities beyond my usual work! You might recognize me from appearances on shows like Celebrity MasterChef, and I even had a quick cameo as myself in both Doctor Who and Absolutely Fabulous – it was a blast!

Kirsty stepped down from Newsnight and now presents Front Row on BBC Radio 4.

She is also working on documentaries and her third novel.
