BBC presenter admits he feels sorry for Strictly’s Amy Dowden as she’s partnered with Thomas Skinner amid this year’s scandal

Peter Levy, a presenter for the BBC, has expressed sympathy for Amy Dowden, as he believes she faced a difficult pairing with Thomas Skinner on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Even though many people have called for Thomas to be removed from the show after he abruptly left the press event earlier this month, the BBC has continued to support him.

Following Saturday’s launch event, it was announced that Thomas will dance with the Welsh professional dancer, who is returning to the competition after successfully battling breast cancer.

The 35-year-old dancer was paired with JB Gill on last year’s show, but unfortunately, she had to leave the competition because of an injury.

After the first episode aired, BBC presenter Peter, host of Look North, shared on Twitter that he felt bad for Amy Dowden.

I was really interested to see how people reacted to the article, and it turns out a lot of fans felt the same way as the journalist! The comments section was full of people sharing their thoughts, and there was a definite consensus building.

Someone wrote: ‘Aren’t we all thinking the same thing?’ and added, ‘She really earned a major award this year, particularly given her recent health struggles. He just isn’t on that level!’

‘We all do’; ‘She deserved better, with all she’s been through’; ‘she does not deserve this’;

‘We all do Peter, the producers did the dirty on her’.

Daily Mail have gone to both the BBC and Thomas Skinner’s representatives for comment.

Thomas recently made headlines after confessing to a brief affair just weeks after marrying his wife in May 2022. He described the encounter as a regrettable lapse in judgment.

I’ve always followed the story closely, and it’s heartbreaking. Amy-Lucy O’Rourke, who was reportedly having an affair with him, later shared with the Daily Mail that they were together for about three months. She said he told her he was deeply in love with her and really unhappy in his marriage during that time. It’s a sad situation for everyone involved, and I feel for Amy-Lucy sharing her side of things.

The woman claiming to be Thomas’s mistress has threatened to reveal further details about their relationship. On Thursday, Thomas spoke to his 700,000 followers, alluding to difficult times in his life.

Alongside a selfie, he penned: ‘Good Morning You Lovely People!!’.

Thomas shared that he had a good start to the day with a workout at the gym and is excited to continue dancing with his Strictly partner.

‘Remeber [sic]….Never give up, because one day you will look back and be glad you didn’t!

‘Now go smash it! You are ten times stronger than you can ever imagine.

Focus on the positive today! If you look towards the light, you’ll leave the negativity behind. Go for it!

During Saturday’s show, Thomas mentioned his wife and three children, saying they’ll be watching every episode at home.

He told Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman that he sees himself as the least likely to win, but he’s incredibly excited to be part of the competition and grateful for the opportunity.

Honestly, I’m going into this knowing I’m a total beginner! My dance experience pretty much stops at letting loose at weddings after a few drinks. But I’m really excited to give it my all and I’m determined to learn – I’m going to work hard and do my best!

Just hours before, Amy-Lucy had defended herself against online trolls, stating she wasn’t trying to break up anyone’s relationship.

On Monday, the aesthetician posted on her Instagram Stories, thanking everyone for the kind messages she’d received.

I’ve encountered some negative online comments, but they don’t matter because most people recognize the dishonesty in what he says.

Amy-Lucy explained she didn’t share the details of the affair for financial gain or publicity, but because she wanted to show how hurt she was by the way she was treated.

The complete truth is still unknown, and the details are extensive and unbelievable. I’ve had to provide a lot of evidence – recipes, texts, phone records, and even security camera footage. There’s a message where someone says they can’t believe what I’ve been through, and I’ve demonstrated everything to prove what happened.

It wasn’t about the money; it was about expressing my feelings and addressing how Thomas treated me.

Earlier this month, Thomas surprised reporters when he took a female journalist’s phone and quickly left during an interview.

Even though many people were calling for him to be removed, the BBC continued to support Thomas. He then released a statement addressing the controversy and apologizing to the journalist involved.

He explained that during an interview yesterday, a journalist put their phone on the table and started recording the conversation. He wanted to clarify this situation.

I briefly looked at the screen and noticed a lot of messages weren’t about the show, but about something personal from my history.

He admitted that hearing about his past brought up painful memories, and explained, ‘I’ve faced some tough challenges in my life, and I’ve made a real effort to overcome them.’

Seeing it suddenly took me by surprise. I needed to take a moment to compose myself, so I decided to walk away.

Thomas continued: ‘This had nothing to do with the interviews or Strictly itself.

I accidentally grabbed the wrong phone, and I’m not sure if the journalist noticed their messages were being viewed. I definitely don’t think they meant for that to happen.

I’m thrilled to be joining Strictly this year! I’m incredibly thankful for all the wonderful support and kindness everyone has shown me.

‘It means the world to me, and I can’t wait to give it my all on that dancefloor. Bosh.’

Before he became famous, Tom was arrested in 2011 for possessing stolen items.

He was accused of stealing approximately £40,000 worth of Body Shop cleansing gels – nearly 5,000 tubes – as well as 2,000 diazepam tablets.

After being criticized online for simply witnessing a robbery at a bakery, he decided to address some past mistakes he’d made.

He strongly criticized people for shoplifting while dressed in expensive clothes, angrily questioning the direction the country was heading. However, social media users quickly pointed out his own history of criminal behavior, calling him a hypocrite.

Responding on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his disbelief at the criticism he’s received for mentioning a robbery he witnessed at a Greggs. He also addressed past arrests, confirming he was arrested multiple times as a young man, and that he’s faced the consequences and paid for his convictions, even writing a book about his experiences.

He shared that when he was growing up, he didn’t always have his own room and sometimes had to sleep on a pull-out bed on the floor.

I didn’t come from wealth or privilege; I built my life from the ground up. Now, I travel to schools and universities sharing my experiences, hoping to motivate others to do the same.

I’m not a hero, just someone who works hard,” he said. “Everyone makes mistakes – I’ve certainly made more than my share. Now, I focus on spreading positivity. I was stabbed when I was younger due to my past actions, and that experience motivates me to help with the knife crime campaign at my gym.

Let’s be real – it’s time we all took a good look around and acknowledged that things aren’t quite right. But honestly, I truly believe we have the power to turn things around, and it all starts with unity. We can absolutely make a difference if we work together – it’s that simple. That’s my take on it!
