BBC Northern Ireland’s new show from This Country boss adds new cast
BBC Northern Ireland comedy series Funboys has added several new cast members.
The latest production by Simon Mayhew-Archer, the mind behind “This Country,” centers around three companions named Callum (played by Ryan Dylan), Jordan (portrayed by Rian Lennon), and Lorcan (acted by Lee R James) living in a quaint Northern Irish village.
Before its launch next month, it’s official that Jamie Demetriou from “Stath Lets Flats” will be part of the cast, along with several other well-known actors.
They encompass Ele McKenzie (Everyone Else Burns), Brian Devlin (Kneecap), Owen Colgan (Lulu and the Electric Dreamboat), Paul Bazely (Waterloo Road), Richard Croxford (Bloodlands), Emer O’Connor (Absolutely Fabulous), Amanda Hurwitz, James Martin (Derry Girls), Vanessa Ifediora (Belfast), Walter Chigui (High Expectations), and Brendan Quinn (One Day).
The show chronicles the journey of Callum, Jordan, and Lorcan as they encounter various challenges in their lives, ranging from first loves to losing beloved pets, and are subjected to intense emotional experiences.
However, does their mutual enjoyment of harmless frolics and playful tomfoolery lead them into troubled waters? The plot suggests this.
The program is captured using a realistic and unobtrusive filming style, often referred to as “fly-on-the-wall,” which examines topics like male sensitivity, strict religious beliefs, and intimate physical interactions.
Executive producer and storywriter Simon Mayhew-Archer expressed, “Rian, Ryan, and Lee are among the most amusing and creative individuals I’ve collaborated with. I truly hope this project brings as much joy to others as it has brought me.
Demetriou expressed his astonishment, stating, “The skill of the Funboys’ pilot left me speechless!” He continued, expressing admiration for their unwavering commitment to creating humor that is both authentic and unique. Witnessing this creativity firsthand on set was a career-defining moment for him.
Funboys will premiere on BBC Northern Ireland, BBC Three, BBC One and BBC iPlayer in February.
