BBC glitch reveals private Alex Jones moment broadcast to shocked viewers

The BBC had an awkward mishap this week when the wrong program aired on the BBC Scotland channel. Instead of the scheduled News at Six, viewers saw a live feed from The One Show studio about an hour early. This resulted in roughly two and a half minutes of unintended footage being broadcast.

A live broadcast unexpectedly went out showing Alex Jones and Clara Amfo getting ready, including having their hair and outfits adjusted. They were also seen chatting about the TV show EastEnders and discussing how to pronounce their guest, Roisin Conaty’s, last name with the production team.

They quickly filmed a short video for social media, needing a second attempt to get the shot just right.

The broadcast quickly showed the news for a moment before returning to the studio where The One Show was filmed, and then everything went back to how it was.

Neither host said anything inappropriate or unexpected, but the moment offered viewers a rare and surprising glimpse into what usually happens behind the scenes.

Jones and Amfo playfully mentioned enjoying some champagne earlier, as it was Alex’s 49th birthday. They joked that if they’d realized they were live on air, they could have shared even more stories about it.

People enjoyed the situation, pointing out how it almost perfectly resembled a classic ‘accidental Partridge’ moment – a hilariously awkward and unintentionally funny incident.

One fan declared it the best show ‘except for those watching in Scotland,’ while another joked about a surprising revelation: ‘Imagine if Alex Jones wasn’t Welsh, and this is how we discovered it!’

“The fab thing about this is the presenters just seem really nice,” wrote a third.

Alex shared on Instagram that she did go out for a drink to celebrate, but she didn’t overdo it because she had interviews with Nicola Coughlan and Nick Grimshaw scheduled for the next day.

The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One and streams on iPlayer.
