BBC drama with Timothy Spall and Harriet Walter is trending on iPlayer
As a seasoned gamer of historical dramas, I must say that “Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light” has truly captured my attention like none other. With its masterful blend of politics, intrigue, and human drama, it’s akin to being immersed in an epic role-playing game, where every character is vying for power in the court of King Henry VIII.
BBC drama Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light has trended on iPlayer.
This month saw the start of the second installment of the historical drama, picking up where we left off, as it chronicles the ascension of Thomas Cromwell during Henry VIII’s reign.
The program, featuring actors Timothy Spall and Harriet Walter, has recently become a television sensation, as Barb revealed that the premiere of season 2 attracted more than four million viewers during its initial broadcast week.
Among soaps like Emmerdale and EastEnders, Wolf Hall stands out as one of the highest-rated programs on iPlayer.
The show is adapted from the novels penned by Hilary Mantel, with Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis portraying the characters of Cromwell and Henry respectively.
In the series, Walter assumes the role of Lady Margaret Pole, and for the upcoming second season, Spall enters the cast, stepping into the shoes of the Duke of Norfolk, a part previously played by Bernard Hill who passed away this year. The original lead character from season one, Tom Holland, has been replaced by Charlie Rowe in the role of Gregory.
In a recent explanation, executive producer Peter Kosminsky mentioned that they had to adjust the cast for several reasons. Regrettably, Bernard Hill passed away shortly before production began, making it impossible for him to reprise his role as the Duke of Norfolk.
He added: “I think the Duke of Norfolk is different in the new book. I think Tim fitted that really well.”
Kosminsky additionally disclosed an increase in characters of diverse ethnicities featured in season 2, expressing joy saying, “We didn’t have this representation in the first series. I’m thrilled we could make it happen.
We aimed to secure top-tier talent for our production who were readily accessible, so we scrutinized all potential candidates, ultimately selecting the finest actors from those who tried out for the parts.
Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light airs on Sundays on BBC One at 9pm.
