The BBC has announced that Disney will not be co-producing future seasons of Doctor Who. The popular science fiction show is set to return for a new season during the 2026 holiday season, and Russell T Davies will continue as showrunner. But what other details have been revealed?
The recent seasons of the popular sci-fi show, featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the lead, were made by the BBC and Disney together. In the US, you can watch the episodes on Disney+.
Ncuti Gatwa has finished his time on the show. The final five episodes from his original contract will be released after the new spin-off series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, premieres next year.

During a recent interview, producer Jane Tranter mentioned Disney hadn’t decided if it would continue to be involved with the show. However, the BBC has now announced it will once again have complete control of the series.
The show will return with a Christmas special in 2026, written by Russell T Davies. While details about future seasons haven’t been revealed yet, the BBC has confirmed they are still dedicated to the series and will share more information when it’s available.
