BBC confirms cast for Manchester-set drama with Suranne Jones
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of binge-watching under my belt, I must say, the casting for BBC’s upcoming drama “Film Club” has me absolutely smitten! The combination of Suranne Jones, Nabhaan Rizwan, Adam Long, Liv Hill, and Aimee Lou Wood (not to mention Ralph Davis himself) promises a rollercoaster ride of emotions that I simply cannot resist.
The BBC has officially announced the ensemble for Aimee Lou Wood’s Manchester-based drama, “Film Club,” which includes Suranne Jones, who starred in the series “Vigil.
Earlier this year, the project was initially unveiled; it’s a joint effort between Wood and Ralph Davis from “House of the Dragon.” This narrative centers around two friends named Evie and Noa, both members of a movie club.
Yet, if either of them receives a job opportunity across the nation, the duo must confront the possibility that their emotions might run deeper than initially thought.
Filming is now underway, and it’s been officially announced that Jones has joined the cast to portray Evie’s (Wood’s character) unusual mother Suz. Meanwhile, Nabhaan Rizwan from Kaos is set to play the role of Noa.
In the upcoming production, Adam Long from Happy Valley is set to depict the role of Evie’s boyfriend, Josh. Meanwhile, Liv Hill, known for The Serpent Queen, will take on the character of her sister, Izzie. Lastly, Davis will be seen as the latest addition to the Film Club, Dominic.
The story revolves around Evie during a period of seclusion, as she hasn’t ventured outside for six months. Her weekly respite comes on Fridays with her Film Club meetings.
On a particular Friday, things take an unexpected turn when Noa discloses that he has secured his ideal job across the country. This revelation forces them both to ponder whether their friendship might mean something more.
Apart from managing her own life, Evie also needs to handle the quirks of her family dynamics, sharing a home with her affectionate mother and charming partner Josh.
Wood expressed his excitement as our cherished TV show, which Ralph and I have been developing for ten years, officially begins filming this week.
We’re absolutely thrilled and indebted to the fantastic group of people we’ve gathered together with the BBC. It’s truly an honor to collaborate with Nabhaan and Suranne, two talented performers I’ve long respected, as we breathe life into this project.
Jones mentioned: “For some time, I’ve had a deep affection for Aimee. I find her genuinely authentic, exceptionally witty, and incredibly gifted. Consequently, it came as no shock to me that the script she co-wrote with Ralph Davis is equally real, honest, and hilarious.
1) It’s intelligent, charming, and packed a punch. I’m eagerly anticipating playing the role of her ‘tiger mom’… and I even get to shoot this project in my hometown!
Film Club will air on BBC Three and iPlayer in 2025.
