BBC confirms “brilliantly funny” Yorkshire sitcom with Taskmaster star and it’s all about the NHS

The BBC has ordered a new sitcom called *Push* from Jessica Knappett, known for her work on *Taskmaster*. The show, described as “brilliantly funny,” is set in Yorkshire and follows the lives of midwives in the National Health Service.

This show is set in the busy maternity ward of a small hospital in rural West Yorkshire. It follows a quirky but committed group of midwives who are doing their best to provide care amidst a chaotic and crumbling environment.

Knappett is the lead creative force behind the show Push, a comedy that hilariously captures the everyday challenges and triumphs of achieving the impossible.

Despite limited resources and a rundown environment, the hospital staff work hard and deeply care about their workplace. They find joy in helping new mothers, and their strong teamwork makes the job even more rewarding.

The nurses and doctors of the NHS are often hailed as heroes, but they’re also wonderfully quirky and unique individuals. They’re known for playful flirting, a bit of harmless gossip, and even the occasional quick nap in unusual places like the utility room.

So, about my new show, *Push*? Honestly, it’s a dream come true to get to make a sitcom. And I’m not trying to sound arrogant, but I really feel like it’s important to make this show *really* good – almost like I have a responsibility to do it right. I want it to be the best it can be!

I’ve always been incredibly impressed by the NHS, and after becoming a mother myself, I was inspired to create a show about midwives. Luckily, making the show has been much easier than childbirth – no stitches required!

Jon Petrie, the BBC’s Director of Comedy, said they’ve been searching for a funny, fast-paced comedy about work for some time. He believes the new show, *Push*, created by Jess and her team, perfectly fits the bill. He described it as a heartwarming, witty series that took months to develop, and the BBC is excited to share it with audiences.

Jack Bayles, the show’s executive producer, called it “a brilliantly funny and charming show with a lot of heart, and characters that reflect the diversity of the NHS.”

Push does not yet have a release date.
