BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay shares “proudest moment” after award win

As a long-time fan of BBC Breakfast, I must say that Jon Kay‘s recent cooking contest victory has added an entirely new dimension to my admiration for him. Having watched him grace our screens every morning, it was refreshing and heartwarming to see him win the men’s cooking category with his cheese and onion pasty at the village show. It’s not everyday that a breakfast television presenter becomes a culinary champion in their spare time!

On the BBC Breakfast show, host Jon Kay recently received an award from a cooking competition, which he considers among his most significant accomplishments.

In a local exhibition within his village, the presenter won first place in the male cook-off category for his exceptional cheese and onion pasty creation.

Kay, accompanied by his family, posted photos of the winning dish on his Instagram – labeling his victory as arguably the pinnacle of pride he’s ever experienced in his lifetime.

He boasted in his post that his savory cheese and onion pastry took the top spot in our local fair’s male culinary competition.

“The looks of absolute astonishment on the faces of my wife and children will never be forgotten.”

2024 saw BBC Breakfast commence its day with a longer running time on weekdays, as verified by Kay through various social media platforms.

“It’s a big week for the #BBCBreakfast team,” Kay wrote on Twitter/X on New Year’s Day this year.

Starting from Monday through Friday, the program duration will extend by 15 minutes. At 9:30 AM, our colleagues at BBC Morning Live will take over instead.

Kay also explained at the time that Morning Live would have a new, extended runtime as well.

The weekly format of BBC Breakfast underwent a transformation, mirroring a significant visual overhaul of the program.

In the summer of 2023, the studio located at MediaCity Salford underwent a facelift and received modern updates, marking its first renovation and expansion in more than a decade.

On the inaugural broadcast, Kay teamed up with his “BBC Breakfast” partner Sally Nugent to unveil the revamped studio.

BBC Breakfast airs every morning from 6am on BBC One.
