BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood gives rare health update after struggling through weather report – and is flooded with support from concerned fans
As a dedicated fan of Carol Kirkwood, it’s been quite a rollercoaster ride these past few weeks. From her graceful dance moves on Strictly Come Dancing to her current battle against that pesky 100-day cough, she never fails to impress me with her resilience and grace.
BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood finally shared a health update with viewers on Tuesday.
Recently, viewers have observed Carol, aged 62, experiencing difficulty with her voice, sounding hoarse, and frequently coughing during her weather presentations.
As Carol passed the mic back to co-hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay during the broadcast, Sally praised Carol by saying, “You came very close to making it all the way, Carol! Great job!”
Carol then clarified: ‘I know. It’s this pesky 100-day cough. It just keeps giving. It won’t go.’
The illness often referred to as pertussis (a medical term) is actually a bacterial chest infection that typically advances through three distinct phases, starting with symptoms resembling a common cold.
Sufferers can then be left with a chronic cough that remains for several weeks.
Following her disclosure about her health, Sally responded, “I hope you’ll get well soon,” and just before that, Jon commented, “Let’s try again in thirty minutes and catch up later!”
Recently, the weather presenter on BBC Breakfast has been away from the show, and Matt Taylor shared that she was taking some time off.
Matt posted on X: “Morning all! We’ve dispatched @carolkirkwood with the mission of convincing summer to stick around for a while longer.”
‘In the meantime, I’m looking after the @BBCBreakfast forecast this week and …oh look …more rain.’
A week ago, Carol expressed her disappointment through a swipe on Strictly Come Dancing’s ongoing controversy on Thursday, also stating that she has stopped watching the program now.
Lately, there have been allegations surrounding Strictly regarding instances of their professional dancers mistreating or harassing their celebrity counterparts through bullying and abuse.
Back in January, I was absolutely floored when my beloved Amanda Abbington, the radiant star of Strictly, publicly accused her partner Giovanni Pernice of abusive behavior. This shocking revelation came shortly after Amanda’s sudden departure from the show, just five weeks into the competition. As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but be deeply affected by this turn of events.
In the month of July, news broke out that Graziano Di Prima was dismissed from Strictly Come Dancing, following allegations of him “aggressively striking” his dance partner, Love Island alumna Zara McDermott.
In the year 2015, meteorologist Carol (from Scotland) danced her way onto the British television series Strictly Come Dancing. Her dance partner was none other than Pasha Kovalev.
On Thursday, she shared with the Daily Express, “Indeed, I am taken aback, and I feel deeply disappointed too. It’s commendable that they are looking into all these allegations thoroughly.”
Carol expressed that she truly enjoyed her experience on the show, sharing this special moment with her delightful dance partner, Pasha, aged 38, who is currently featured in Dancing With The Stars.
Additionally, the presenter mentioned that none of the other contestants had reported issues with her during that particular period.
However, she sympathized: “I understand far too much about their situation and the anxiety it causes… Since watching it still stirs up my own nerves, making me seek an exit like a fire escape, I haven’t viewed it in quite some time.”
In an episode of the “Off Air… With Jane And Fi” podcast that went live in July, Carol expressed her feelings about Strictly as follows: ‘I adored it! The Saturday evenings were nerve-wracking for me, but the overall experience, particularly the training sessions with Pasha, was my favorite part.’
He exhibited immense patience and kindness; whenever I’d express my struggle with something, he’d reassure me, saying, “Don’t worry, you’ll manage it tomorrow.”
1. “He treated me wonderfully, leaving no room for criticism at all. I won’t ever forget that kindness, and looking back, I have no regrets about it.”
BBC Breakfast airs 6am to 9am each morning on BBC One, the BBC News channel and BBC iPlayer.
