BBC announces new Liverpool-set drama from Time boss
As a dedicated fan of British dramas, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming original drama from the brilliant Jimmy McGovern! With its gritty realism and poignant storytelling, McGovern never fails to deliver thought-provoking narratives that resonate deeply.
The BBC has announced an original new drama from Time writer Jimmy McGovern.
Title yet to be determined, this upcoming production is scheduled to take place and be filmed in the vibrant city of Liverpool. It delves into the poignant narrative of a single family, focusing on the devastating consequences they face as a result of grooming and sexual abuse.
Actress Anna Maxwell Martin, known for her roles in “Motherland” and “Line of Duty,” has agreed to join the cast alongside Anna Friel from “Marcella” and David Threlfall who is famous for his work on “Shameless.
This fictional drama focuses on the Mitchell family as they grapple with the heart-wrenching consequences of an act of abuse within their midst. The troubling reality is that the perpetrator, a relative, was recently freed from prison after serving his sentence.
New additions to the cast are Bobby Schofield, known for his roles in “Time” and “SAS Rogue Heroes,” as well as Mark Womack from “The Responder.” Further casting decisions will be shared later on.
In the role of director, Julia Ford – famously recognized for her work in “Showtrial” and “The Bay” – has been tapped to helm a 90-minute dramatic production. Additionally, McGovern will assume a dual role as both actor and executive producer for this intriguing project.
In a press release, McGovern expressed his astonishment at the talented team put together for this project. Despite the complexity of the movie, he’s eagerly anticipating its debut.
Time season 2
The drama has been commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, who called McGovern “one of our greatest dramatists” in today’s world.
She stated, “His latest movie delicately explores the agony of abuse and its impact not just on the victim but also on the entire family. It’s truly remarkable to witness such a powerful production, boasting an exceptional cast and creative team, which underscores the depth and talent in Jimmy’s writing.
As a gaming enthusiast diving back into the world of dramatic storytelling, I’m thrilled to be joining forces once more with the talented Anna Friel. Our paths crossed in the 2017 BBC series, “Broken,” and now we’re set to create another captivating tale, this time in the vibrant cityscape of Liverpool.
In the gaming world of binge-watching, I just wrapped up the second season of the gripping prison drama Time, which dropped on BBC last October. A spin-off from the original series, this season brought three powerhouse actresses, Jodie Whittaker, Bella Ramsey, and Tamara Lawrance, to life as unforgettable inmates. It was a thrilling ride!
Time seasons 1-2 are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
