I’m so excited! The BBC is making a new drama all about The Beatles’ time in Hamburg! It’s called Hamburg Days, and it’s going to show how they really became the band we all know and love, playing gigs and developing their sound before they were famous. It’s going to be amazing to see how it all started!
The new six-episode series brings together a talented team: Benjamin Benedict (known for Generation War) is developing the show, Jamie Carragher (Succession) is the head writer, Christian Schwochow (The Crown) is the showrunner, and Mat Whitecross (Oasis: Supersonic) is directing.
The show takes place in the lively, often smoky clubs of Hamburg’s St. Pauli red-light district, where a fresh rock ‘n’ roll band from Liverpool first meets and interacts with two up-and-coming artists, Klaus Voormann and Astrid Kirchherr.

The story follows how these individuals came together and launched a remarkable journey, turning a humble group of teens into The Beatles – the most iconic band in history.
Sue Deeks, who leads scripted content acquisitions for the BBC, described Hamburg Days as a compelling story about a young band from Liverpool. The show details how they spent over two years developing their musical talents in Hamburg before achieving global fame back home.

“It is an incredible story, accompanied (of course) by an amazing soundtrack!” she added.
The series Hamburg Days is adapted from the autobiography of artist and musician Klaus Voormann, who also serves as a consultant on the show.
Fans can also look forward to four upcoming films, planned for release in 2028, each focusing on a different member of the Beatles.

The upcoming Sam Mendes film will star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
The cast also includes Mia McKenna-Bruce (from The Dumping Ground) as Maureen Starkey, Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai (Shōgun) as Yoko Ono, and Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus) as Pattie Boyd.
Hamburg Days will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
