BBC acquires new drama adaptation with Kin star and Jacob Elordi

The BBC has purchased the rights for airing the upcoming historical drama titled “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” which stars Jacob Elordi, known for his role in “Euphoria,” and Ciarán Hinds, who gained fame through “Kin.

The five-part series is a screen adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s namesake novel, chronicling the life of Dorrigo Evans. In his youth, he is played by Elordi, while Hinds takes on the role in later stages of his life.

Under the direction of Justin Kurzel and written by Shaun Grant, this drama delves into the intense romance between Dorrigo and Amy Mulvaney, portrayed by Odessa Young. This relationship is depicted in the film “Mothering Sunday,” alongside Josh O’Connor.

The TV show will additionally explore Dorrigo’s journey through World War II, his period as a war captive, and his subsequent acclaimed medical career as a respected surgeon.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North is a deep and moving collection that intricately combines various phases in the life story of doctor Dorrigo Evans, from the intense emotions of initial love, to an unsparing portrayal of existence as a war captive in occupied Burma,” Sue Deeks, head of BBC Programme Acquisition, stated. In simpler terms, this series offers a detailed, emotional exploration of Dorrigo Evans’ life journey, encompassing the thrill of first love and the harsh realities of being a prisoner of war in Burma.

The show, created by Curio Pictures and disseminated worldwide by Sony Pictures Television, will announce its release date at a later time.

Curio Pictures’ Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner, in their roles as executive producers, commented that ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North‘ is a grand narrative illustrating the enduring strength of love even under the most challenging conditions.

Following the triumph of Saltburn, Elordi is set to collaborate with writer-director Emerald Fennell for a second time, this time on her rendition of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. The project will also feature Margot Robbie as a cast member.

Actress famous for playing Barbie will also serve as a producer under her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, for the first two films directed by Fennell – ‘Promising Young Woman’ and ‘Saltburn’.
