BBC acquires “gripping” Australian crime drama with a seasoned detective and “compelling” story

The BBC has bought the rights to Dustfall, a compelling new Australian detective series. Anna Torv, known for her roles in Mindhunter and The Last of Us, stars as the main character, Tig. Filming is currently underway in Australia.

The BBC has announced its six-episode series will be available on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK. They haven’t announced the specific release date yet.

Dustfall is adapted from Vikki Petraitis’s novel, The Unbelieved. It’s a fast-paced, moody crime story set in the tropics, following a detective whose strong sense of right and wrong is tested in a world where victims aren’t taken seriously, criminals are hard to spot, and the justice system often fails.

Detective Tig, a veteran of the city police force, returns to her hometown of North Gap only to find herself investigating a series of drink spiking incidents. The case takes a shocking turn when one of the prime suspects is found murdered.

I’m so excited about the cast alongside Torv! We’ve got Juliet Stevenson, who I loved in King & Conqueror, Peter Fenton from Love is a Four Letter Word, Bert Labonte who was hilarious in Colin From Accounts, Lila McGuire who I remember from The Twelve, Ling Cooper Tang from Apples Never Fall, Gemma Chua-Tran who was great in Heartbreak High, Alice Ansara from Black Snow, and also Harry Gilchrist. It’s such a talented group!

The cast also includes Zoe Phillips (Eden), Kate Box (Deadloch), Martin Sacks (The Survivors), Theo Haitana (Heart of the Man), Conrad Coleby (The Wolverine), Ben Knight (Bay of Fires), Kirsty O’Connor (A Little Resistance), Jay Ryan (It: Chapter Two), Ed Wightman (Superman Returns), and Luke J Morgan (NCIS: Sydney).

Dianne Taylor (from After the Party), Stuart Page (Total Control), Belinda Chayko (The Survivors), and Beatrix Christian (Black Snow) wrote the show, and Emma Freeman (known for The Newsreader) directed it.

BBC executive Sue Deeks describes the crime drama Dustfall, starring Anna Torv, as a captivating and emotionally resonant series that really makes you think.

Anna Torv is well-known for her role as Wendy Carr in the Netflix series Mindhunter. However, in 2023, director David Fincher indicated that a third season is unlikely to happen.

Dustfall will air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.

The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can find Ariana & Witches at newsstands and online for only £8.99.
