BBC acquires “gripping” and “high-stakes” police drama The Black Forest Murders

The BBC has obtained the rights to broadcast the German police series “The Black Forest Murders” on BBC Four and its online streaming platform, iPlayer.

Originally titled “Spuren“, this mini-series consisting of four 45-minute episodes made its debut in Germany as far back as February.

The series draws inspiration from two actual incidents that occurred in 2016, as well as the non-fiction book “SOKO Erle,” primarily revolving around an in-depth examination of a murder case where a woman was brutally beaten to death.

Barbara Kramer (Nina Kunzendorf) and Thomas Riedle (Tilman Strauß) come together to establish a substantial investigation team regarding the case at hand. However, their progress is hindered when an additional murder occurs, potentially linked to the first, and striking similarities arise with a previous case in Austria.

On iPlayer, a heartbreakingly beautiful show titled “Reunion,” produced by the team behind “Adolescence,” has recently been added to the lineup. Meanwhile, the first season of the critically acclaimed Australian drama “The Newsreader” will be departing from the service in a week.

The murder mysteries set in the Black Forest are yet to be scheduled for broadcast on BBC Four and streaming on BBC iPlayer, but they have already aired on Das Erste in Germany.
