Baywatch star reveals X-RATED secret ‘technique’ he used to stop ‘shrinkage’ in the famously tight swim briefs
As I delve into this captivating account of the iconic television series “Baywatch”, I find myself utterly mesmerized by the tales of these larger-than-life characters and their extraordinary journeys. The story of David, who became synonymous with Cody Madison, is particularly intriguing. His transformation from a mere auditionee to the embodiment of beach culture’s epitome is nothing short of remarkable.
In the role of a Baywatch heartthrob, it was just as essential to maintain an appealing appearance in those iconic snug swim trunks as it was to vigilantly scan the LA coast for swimmers requiring assistance.
Currently, it’s revealed that David Chokachi, famously known for his role as Cody Madison, has shared his strategy to counteract ‘shrinkage’ during filming scenes in freezing cold water with limited attire, in the upcoming documentary series titled “After Baywatch: Moment In The Sun.”
The 56-year-old TV star joined a host of the famous cast to get candid about what it was really like to work on the iconic TV series and reflected on how exposed the men felt while wearing nothing but tight swim briefs.
He mentioned that often, it’s as early as 6:30 am and it’s incredibly cold, yet the situation feels something like being told, “Alright, let’s jump into the water”. He found it hard to believe, or put simply, the sudden plunge into the cold was absurd.
Instead of using my own method, I’d usually search for a small blanket or coat and then conceal myself underneath it. Then, I would give myself a quick tidying up, which I like to call a “personal grooming session.”
‘Then it created a little circulation and you could represent yourself a little bit better.’
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’ll let you in on an interesting tidbit: In my line of work, I occasionally find myself yearning for casual attire, like wearing shorts more frequently. However, the powers that be in production haven’t always been receptive to this suggestion.
In a reminiscence, he mentioned, “I suggested, ‘Isn’t it possible for me to put on the red swim shorts?’ To which they responded, ‘Regrettably, no. The reason being that lifeguards traditionally wear speedos as they are more efficient in water.'”
Back in 1995, I stepped into the limelight of the widely adored beach drama series, filling the shoes left by the esteemed David Charvet. I graced the screens until 1999, after which I decided to move on from this captivating production.
One topic that came up frequently among the cast during their discussions in the four-part documentary was the expectation for the men to maintain an attractive appearance.
Delving into the topic, Carmen Electra (playing Lani McKenzie) expressed her viewpoint: “I believe that Baywatch was a trailblazer as it showcased male characters, and they certainly exuded attractiveness.”
Alexandra Paul, who portrayed Lt. Stephanie Holden, shared insights about how the male actors on the show also felt the same level of pressure to maintain their appearances as the female cast members.
She pointed out that men can be equally objectified as women, using Chokachi as an illustration. In the opening credits, he emerges from the water with muscles clearly defined, tosses his head back, and in a slow-motion shot, you can see his bulge through his suit, which was quite alluring.
The start of season six saw David’s character taking a leisurely swim, showcasing his impressive figure in a pair of blue swimming trunks, as the camera admired his appealing build.
The clip was then used in the opening credits of every episode that followed.
Kelly Packard, portraying April Giminski, commented: ‘In the series, the male characters wore very little, leaving not much to one’s imagination.’
David explained that the Baywatch look was exceptionally popular during the time.
He mentioned that the 1990s were overflowing with men who had incredibly sculpted physiques, sporting well-defined abdominal muscles (referred to as “eight packs”), and often wore minimal clothing such as underwear.
Looking back at the day of his audition, he remembered thinking: ‘The moment I crossed the threshold, it felt as if they were saying: “You are Cody Madison. You’re exactly who we’ve been searching for all this time.”‘
In no time at all, the actor understood that maintaining an impressive physique would be advantageous for him in the TV series.
He went on to explain: ‘It became clear to me from the start of the series that being physically fit leads to more storylines being created for you, which in turn results in a larger fan base and greater earnings.’
I found myself drawn to it, as if it were destined to happen, so I wholeheartedly accepted it. My goal was to achieve peak physical fitness, and I took every necessary step to ensure that I did.
In another part of the film, actor Jeremy Jackson confessed that it wasn’t simple for him during his adolescence when he was surrounded by a cast wearing very little clothing while working on the set.
Previously famed child actor portrayed Hobie Buchannon, David Hasselhoff’s fictional son on screen, starting at the age of eight.
As an adolescent, the actor openly acknowledged that he frequently capitalized on the opportunity of sharing a dressing room with actresses like Pamela Anderson.
According to the star, after filming was completed, I would secretly check the locker rooms and catch a whiff of everyone’s swimsuits from ‘Baywatch’. To put it mildly, I have caught a scent of each cast member from ‘Baywatch’.
In a 2011 interview with Howard Stern, Jeremy once discussed his unusual behavior on set, admitting that he masturbated while smelling Pamela’s famous red swimsuit.
He said: ‘All the girls’ Playboys were around … you get to flipping through a few of those and then you start thinking, “How can I enhance this experience?”
Following Baywatch: Moment in the Sun offers a heartfelt and enlightening journey through the cultural sensation known as Baywatch, which shaped an epoch, and delves unparalleledy into the lives of the actors who breathed life into the world’s iconic lifeguards.
This documentary series, featuring fresh interviews with many cast members and previously unreleased clips, delves into how the program portrayed the mythology of California’s beach lifestyle, established aesthetic ideals for a generation, and leveraged the phrase “sex can be a powerful selling tool.”
