Hollywood actor Michael Newman has died at the age of 68.
He gained significant recognition for portraying a lifeguard character in the popular television program, Baywatch, alongside actresses such as Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra.
Newman passed away due to complications related to Parkinson’s Disease, according to PageSix.
He was first diagnosed with the crippling diseases in 2006 at the age of 50.
Newman was the only Baywatch actor who had worked as a lifeguard in real life.
He appeared on 150 episodes of the show, the most of anyone except David Hasselhoff.
The actor was also a full-time firefighter while starring on Baywatch.
The struggle of the person with Parkinson’s disease was highlighted in the latest Baywatch documentary titled “Baywatch: Moment in the Sun.
In an interview with People in August, Newman shared, ‘Having this terminal illness has given me ample opportunity for reflection, something perhaps I didn’t ask for, yet it’s granted me wisdom.’
He remarked that his body has been subtly transforming over time, almost imperceptibly, but Parkinson’s disease has gradually taken a more prominent role in his daily existence.
Newman expressed, “I deeply appreciate each day I spend on this planet surrounded by my loved ones. I strive to live life with purpose.
He shared that the words he lives by are, ‘It’s not a run-through.’
