As a devoted admirer looking back, I didn’t start my journey with Baywatch through the initial show, but rather with its short-lived spinoff, Baywatch Nights, which debuted in 1995 and ran for just two seasons.

Due to a midlife dilemma, Sergeant Ellerbee left the police force and established a private investigation firm, which Mitch also joined. Halfway through the initial season, Donna Marco was introduced as a new character.

To boost flagging viewership, the series decided to take on a science fiction mystery structure during its second season as a last resort.

Despite the experiment not being successful, Baywatch Nights concluded its broadcast during syndication after completing two seasons. Simultaneously, while Baywatch Nights was airing its second season, Donna was transferred to the main Baywatch series.

After it ended for good, she devoted herself full-time to Baywatch for seasons seven and eight.

However, Donna’s tenure in the series didn’t last long due to her dismissal, which was part of a larger move to let go of several key actors as an urgent cost-cutting measure prior to the commencement of the ninth season.

The main show ran for a grand total of 11 seasons, concluding in May 2001. However, Hasselhoff and some other original cast members reunited for a TV movie made specially for this occasion, which was broadcast on Fox in 2003.

Donna recently posted something on Instagram about Baywatch that brought back nostalgia, but it was somewhat tame.
