Oh my gosh, you guys, Baywatch is *coming back*! I can barely breathe! They’re actually rebooting the original series, the one from the 90s that basically defined my childhood! I heard they’ve officially given it the go-ahead, so get ready for more sun, sand, and… well, everything we loved about Baywatch! I’m already counting down the days!
The show is returning to Fox with a new season of 12 episodes, scheduled to premiere during the 2026-27 TV season. Fox Entertainment and Fremantle are partnering to produce it.
The show, which aired from 1989 to 2001, centered on the stories of lifeguards working on the beaches of Los Angeles.
David Hasselhoff played the main character, Mitch Buchanan, and the show helped launch Pamela Anderson’s career, where she became famous for her role as C.J. Parker.
Despite consistently receiving poor reviews from critics, Baywatch was incredibly popular with audiences and became the most-watched television show globally during its time on air.
During its last two seasons, the show was renamed Baywatch: Hawaii, and Jason Momoa – who would later become a famous movie star – became a cast member.

Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, told Variety that the original *Baywatch* was a cultural phenomenon that made lifeguards famous. He announced that the show is being revived with Fremantle as a partner, bringing a modern update to this classic series.
Fox and Fremantle, working with creators Matt Nix and Greg Bonann, are reimagining Baywatch for a new audience. The updated series will feature new stories, exciting new actors, and the same thrilling action that made the original a worldwide hit.
Christian Vesper, Fremantle’s head of global drama, stated that ‘Baywatch’ is a valuable and well-known show with a lasting impact on television. He believes Fox is the right partner to help continue its success.
We’re lucky to have Matt Nix leading the project – he’s a fantastic storyteller. We want to both welcome back longtime fans and attract a new audience to this iconic series about lifeguards.
At its peak, Baywatch was watched by 1.1 billion viewers in over 200 countries.
I was so thrilled when they brought the show back as a movie in 2017! Seeing Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, and Priyanka Chopra take on those roles was amazing – it really brought the whole thing to life for me.
Pamela Anderson told The New York Times in 2019 that she still has the famous red swimsuit from Baywatch.
