Battlefield: Everything we know about the next game
The upcoming Battlefield title hasn’t been formally unveiled yet, but based on the information that’s surfaced, it appears this game could potentially revitalize the series.
In the realm of first-person shooters (FPS), Battlefield (BF) has consistently been a crowd-pleaser. However, as of late, things haven’t been going smoothly. The most recent addition to the series, Battlefield 2042, was met with disappointment by players at its launch.
Approximately three years have passed since that time, and it’s just now that people seem to be discovering a sense of fun within the game. With the next installment seemingly imminent, they’ll need to ensure everything is flawless if they aim to regain the fans who have shifted their interest towards games like Delta Force.
A bright future for Battlefield – or the end of the line
For several months, numerous whispers about the upcoming game in the BF series have been circulating online. From leaks to an interview with Vince Zampella, head of Respawn and EA’s Executive Vice President, intriguing insights about this new title have been scattered across the web.
If the issues and waning enthusiasm surrounding BF2042 persist into the next installment, it must immediately garner success to avoid the potential collapse of the Battlefield series as a whole.
In the interview, Zampella expressed his viewpoint that Battlefield 2024 wasn’t an outright failure, yet he expressed regrets over certain decisions they made.
Despite the anticipation, followers of the series are eager for a substantial update this time around, having been let down by the last game’s underwhelming launch. Given the issues with the game, current players find empty promises less than satisfying – demanding a greater effort in return.
The details bring hope
Zampella’s interview sparked optimism within the Battlefield community due to several factors. Primarily, it was emphasized that the upcoming game, referred to as “untitled,” would revert back to a contemporary setting, offering a change from the future scenario presented in BF2042.
It seems we’re leaning towards the assumption that the upcoming game will likely be released sometime between 2027 and 2030, following a pattern similar to Battlefield 3 and 4, as they were set around the time of their respective releases.
As a gamer, I’ve got to admit, Battlefield 2042 didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The 128-player maps, specialist characters, and overly expansive maps were all ambitious attempts, but they seemed to fall short. But here’s the silver lining: these very aspects are set to be fine-tuned in the upcoming game. Among the discussions by Zampella, it appears we can expect a renewed focus on these areas to create a more satisfying gaming experience for us all.
- Smaller, well-designed spaces instead of large, unwieldy maps.
- A move back to 64-player modes.
- The return of the class system.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, having 128 players in one game doesn’t necessarily translate to more fun. It’s not about the numbers, it’s about creating an engaging and enjoyable experience. We’re constantly experimenting with what makes the game most entertaining. Once maps reach a certain size, they start to feel different, which can add a new layer of excitement!
In essence, we’re moving towards a new kind of game arena, and it calls for tailoring our design accordingly. To put it simply, we’re developing something that resembles past Battlefield experiences more closely. What I yearn for are richly detailed, well-crafted play areas – some truly exceptional ones among them. I can hardly wait until you get a glimpse of these masterpieces!

An ambitious project
For the upcoming version of Battlefield (BF), four internal studios of Electronic Arts (EA) are collaborating on its development: DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive. Notably, one of these teams is developing a novel experience for the Battlefield series, which may represent their interpretation of Call of Duty’s Warzone. It appears that Ripple Effect, who created the BF2042 Portal tool, will lead this project and could potentially bring something exciting to the Battlefield landscape.
Additionally, Zampella promises fans that the upcoming game aims to rebuild the community’s confidence by potentially reintroducing a beta testing environment similar to the Battlefield Community Test Environment (CTE), which was previously absent in Battlefield 5.
Our dedicated Battlefield enthusiasts are well aware of what they desire. They’ve stood by us through thick and thin, consistently showing their unwavering support. To rebuild their trust and win them back, we’re making some changes. Expect a broader range of experiences within the Battlefield realm as we aim to enhance our offerings.

Exploring the essential elements of a Battlefield game, particularly its multiplayer mode, we’ve learned that the upcoming release will include at least 45 weapons, nearly double the number offered in BF2042. Moreover, around 10 maps are set to debut with the game, aligning it with past releases. Fortunately, a highly-appreciated feature, destruction and “levelution,” is rumored to make a comeback.
By the close of the day, Zampella’s interview sparked excitement about the upcoming game, yet without a scheduled release date or even a teaser trailer, fans are staying hopeful. There are significant hurdles to overcome and large shoes to fill if the BF series intends to regain its former status as a standout title in the gaming genre. We’ll need to gather more information before we can confidently say it will be truly remarkable for its category.
