An actor known for their work in Mortal Kombat has said they’d like to play either Nightwing (Dick Grayson) or Red Hood (Jason Todd) in the new DC Universe movies and shows.
As a huge fan of the games, I’m really excited about the new Mortal Kombat movie! It’s called Mortal Kombat II and is hitting theaters on May 8, 2026, thanks to Warner Bros. Simon McQuoid, who directed the first film from 2021, is back at the helm. Best of all, Karl Urban is going to be playing Johnny Cage, which I think is perfect casting! I can’t wait to see how they bring the whole universe to life on the big screen.
Lewis Tan, who plays Cole Young in the Mortal Kombat films, recently discussed fan suggestions that he could take on the role of Nightwing in the new DC Universe being created by James Gunn and Peter Safran. He shared his thoughts with ComicBook.
What did Lewis Tan say about wanting to play Nightwing or Red Hood?
I’ve seen some of the fan casting for Nightwing, and I really appreciate the support. I’m a big fan of that character and would love to play him. I think I could bring something special to the role. I also enjoy the character of Red Hood and could envision playing a grittier, more intense version of him in the future. I genuinely love both of those characters.
DC hasn’t officially said whether Nightwing or Red Hood will appear in the new DC Universe. However, since both characters are closely tied to Batman, it makes sense they might show up in the upcoming movie, The Brave and the Bold, which will feature Damian Wayne as Robin. In the comics, Damian is the fifth character to take on the role of Robin, following Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Stephanie Brown. If Damian is Batman’s current sidekick, it suggests that Dick and Jason have been active for a while and have likely become Nightwing and Red Hood. Plus, the city Nightwing often operates in, Blüdhaven, was mentioned in Season 2 of Peacemaker.
Right now, everything beyond that is just guessing. We only know for sure that the movie, The Brave and the Bold, will star Batman and his son, Damian. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for the film.
