Fans can look forward to a new Batman adventure called Bat-Fam coming in November. At New York Comic-Con, the show’s creators and cast revealed some exciting news, including the appearance of a surprising villain from the DC universe. Bat-Fam, formerly known as Bat-Family, is an animated series and a follow-up to the 2023 holiday film Merry Little Batman. Moving the story from a movie to a series allows for the introduction of new and unexpected DC characters to the Bat-Family’s world.
Yonas Kibreab (Damian Wayne), London Hughes (Alicia Pennyworth), and Bobby Moynihan (Man-Bat) discussed how their characters fit into the dynamic of the “Bat-Family.” Moynihan described his version of Man-Bat as a bit of a lovable, but unpredictable, “drunk uncle,” and Kibreab noted that Bruce Wayne’s son is always keeping everyone alert. The actors also talked about their excitement for the show Bat-Fam launching alongside James Gunn’s new DC Universe and shared their hope to be involved in future projects.
Mike Roth, the creator and showrunner of the new Prime Video series, explained that the show allowed for fresh storytelling possibilities with Batman and his villains. In addition to already announced foes like Clayface and Killer Croc, Roth confirmed that Toyman will appear, and promised a unique and enjoyable portrayal of the character.
Warner Bros. Animation is creating Bat-Fam, a new series coming to Amazon Prime Video on November 10, 2025. You can also find Merry Little Batman on the streaming service.
Bat-Fam Cast Explains Their Dysfunctional Family Dynamic

“We All Have a Man-Bat in Our Lives…”
- TopMob: How does your character fit into the Bat-Fam dynamic?

Yonas Kibreab describes Damian as a lively and spirited child who keeps everyone engaged. He sees a lot of himself in Damian, noting that they both naturally bring their energy and authenticity when performing.
As a critic, I have to say London Hughes really nailed it when talking about Alicia’s role in the Bat-family. She sees Alicia as someone who, much like herself, isn’t afraid to barge in and make things happen. But beyond that, Alicia is fascinating because she’s so multi-faceted – she’s the voice of reason, the life of the party, and a bit of a wild card all rolled into one. What I especially loved was the contrast she brings to Batman. He’s this weary, almost parental figure, and she’s like the energetic kid who keeps everyone – including him – from taking things too seriously. It’s a really smart dynamic and a much-needed balance within that family.
Bobby Moynihan described a common family dynamic, saying everyone has a relative or acquaintance who’s a bit of a mess – like a ‘drunk uncle’ or a lovable but eccentric person you dread seeing, but ultimately care about. He compared it to having a ‘crazy’ but endearing person living in your attic – someone everyone knows is a bit much, but you still love anyway. He believes most people can relate to having someone like that in their lives.
Dream Bat-Fam DC Character Additions

“Toyman Does Make an Appearance…”
- TopMob: We’ve got a great cast of characters here from all corners of Batman lore. Is there anyone else that you would like to introduce, hypothetically, in a future season?

Bobby Moynihan: “Has Toyman come up?”
Oh, absolutely, we can discuss that! Toyman does show up, and honestly, it’s a really clever and enjoyable version of the character. I was pleasantly surprised!
We’re really interested in bringing Tahlia back and exploring future possibilities with her character. We have some ideas, but we’re not ready to discuss them just yet.
Yonas Kibreab said he’d love to see Batman and Superman have a really intense, back-and-forth argument – almost like a playful roast battle. He thinks that would be awesome.
London Hughes jokes about a relatable Superman: ‘What if he was just really tired, a bit of a mess, and had a lot on his plate – like seven kids and being an older dad? It’s funny to think of these powerful heroes also dealing with everyday family life – they’re super dads, but still dads.’
Yonas Kibreab: “But then they get along because they’re dads. Like, they have something in common.”
London Hughes would love to see an older version of Catwoman, imagining her as a single woman with a lot of cats. She envisions a funny take on the character – maybe a ‘grandma Catwoman’ who’s getting back into the dating scene, playing on familiar romantic comedy tropes.
How Bat-Fam Is Different From Any Other Batman Story

“We Get To See a Domesticated Bruce [Wayne] for the First Time…”
- TopMob: How do you think this particular story and the animated format opened up new opportunities to tell a Batman story?

Mike Roth explained that the film offers a new look at Bruce Wayne, showing him as a more settled, domesticated man and, for the first time, as a father. He’s accustomed to resolving issues through physical means and gadgets, but now finds himself without those resources and needing to adjust to family life, something he’s never really experienced beyond his relationship with Alfred. It’s interesting to watch him navigate this unfamiliar territory and connect with his new, unconventional family.
- TopMob: Are there any particular comic storylines or parts of Batman lore you drew on in this series?

Mike Roth mentioned they have a distinctive approach to Batman. While staying true to the original material, they’re focusing on storylines that revolve around family, which they believe will resonate with both them and the audience.
Bat-Fam Stars Want To Join James Gunn’s DCU

“James [Gunn], if You’re Watching, We Want To Be a Part of the Live Action…”
- TopMob: Bat-Fam is being released at the same time that the DCU in general is getting a bit of a reset. How do you think this show complements or contrasts what’s going on in the cinematic universe?

London Hughes expressed excitement about James Gunn’s plans for DC, saying, “We’re really hoping to be included in the live-action projects. We want actual roles, not just voice work! We know we can deliver, so please consider us.” While acknowledging they’re already part of the DC universe in some way, Hughes emphasized their desire to be more involved.
Bobby Moynihan joked about hoping to see Man-Bat in live-action DC movies, admitting he’s even started rumors himself! He’s really enjoying being part of the expanding DC Universe, especially after recently watching and loving ‘Peacemaker’. He says being involved with that universe is incredibly exciting, and playfully predicted a live-action Man-Bat appearance in Summer 2027.
