As someone who has been hooked on dark comedies for as long as I can remember and have seen my fair share of thrilling twists and turns, I can confidently say that I am beyond excited for the return of Based on a True Story! This show has quickly become one of my favorites, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Ava and Nathan’s story.

It’s almost time to continue the tale of Based on a True Story on Peacock, starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina! This is one of the best dark comedies that came out in 2023, and I’m so excited to see what happens next. Thankfully, the streamer has now shared the official trailer to gear us up for the next chapter.

The second season of the series titled “Based on a True Story” debuts on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, with all episodes available on Peacock. As per the plot summary, the story resumes three months after Ava (played by Cuoco) and Nathan (Messina) welcome their newborn into the world. Despite attempting to steer clear of their “true crime fixation” to concentrate on their family, they are drawn back in when a series of murders occur, compelling them to investigate. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer reveals Tory (Liana Liberato) and murderer Matt (Tom Bateman) now engaged, with Tory telling her sister Ava that he’s taking steps to change. So she does know Matt is a serial killer. Interesting. But how true is that really? Ava tries to get her away from him, but it’s clear Tory doesn’t want to listen. And this leads to Ava and Nathan (sleepily) staking out and watching Matt.

Despite appearances suggesting that this might just be an imitator of the infamous West Side Ripper, there are hints he may also be trying to unmask the true killer. So, a fresh enigma unfolds: Is it another individual committing these murders or will Matt remain the primary suspect? If the latter turns out to be a copycat, what’s driving them and how do they possess such detailed knowledge of Ava, as shown in the trailer? We shall soon discover!

In addition to earlier glimpses, we also catch a glimpse of another intriguing cast member joining Based on a True Story season 2 – Melissa Fumero from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, portraying Ava’s new acquaintance, Drew. It was previously announced that she would be part of the ensemble this season, and a first glimpse of her in her new role was shared back in August 2024. However, the latest trailer reveals more of Drew, leading me to speculate that she might be taking on a larger role than just being Ava’s friend.
