Barry Keoghan was seen on set playing Ringo Starr while filming the new Beatles movie.
The 33-year-old actor will play the iconic drummer in the film, joining Paul Mescal (as Paul McCartney), Harris Dickinson (as John Lennon), and Joseph Quinn (as George Harrison).
On Saturday, Barry strongly resembled the famous drummer, Sir Richard Starkey, while filming.
He wore a large fur jacket over a purple and white striped shirt, completing the vintage outfit with cropped pants.
While filming, Barry completed his look by growing a beard, getting a haircut similar to Ringo Starr’s iconic shaggy style, and adding sunglasses.
As a huge Beatles fan, I was so thrilled to read in the Daily Mail that the upcoming biopics will actually be filmed at the legendary Abbey Road Studios! It’s amazing because there were rumors for a while that the project had stalled, but production actually started back in November. It’s just perfect – where else would you film a movie about the Beatles?
Westminster Council initially said filming wouldn’t be permitted at the iconic zebra crossing, but they’ve now told the Daily Mail that the shoot is approved and will happen.
Okay, so Sam Mendes – honestly, a genius – he’s always been obsessed with getting everything just right, and for this project, he had this incredible vision! He desperately wanted to recreate the iconic Abbey Road album cover, right there on that famous crossing. It was a huge deal for him, and honestly, seeing it come to life was just… perfect. He’s a perfectionist, and it showed!
Westminster Council confirmed to the Daily Mail that they’re coordinating with film crews, and a road closure will be necessary during filming.
During a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last April – an event the movie’s actors also participated in – Shawn Mendes called the films the ‘first movies you’ll want to watch all at once in a theater’.
This is the first time Apple Corps and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have allowed a movie to be made using their complete life stories and music.
Starr previously hinted that Saltburn star Barry had taken on the role.
He shared with Entertainment Tonight that he thinks the actor is probably taking drum lessons, and he jokingly hopes it’s not a whole lot of them.
While promoting ‘Gladiator II’, director Ridley Scott mentioned that Paul Mescal had committed to a Beatles project. This means Mescal might not be available for Scott’s next film, as he’ll be busy with the Beatles movie.
Barry shared that he was so nervous when he first met Beatles star Ringo Starr, he couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact.
The actor said their meeting was pleasant, but admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he was too awestruck to look the drummer in the eye.
Entitled The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, the project was announced last year.
Each film will tell the story of The Beatles from a different band member’s point of view, following their journey from a little-known Liverpool group in the early 1960s to worldwide fame and their eventual breakup in 1970.
For the first time ever, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, have agreed to allow the creation of feature films based on their lives.
Mendes introduced the four women – Maureen, Linda, Yoko, and Pattie – calling them remarkable individuals. He expressed his excitement that four highly skilled filmmakers agreed to participate in the project.
