I can’t believe Barry Keoghan accidentally let slip a big detail about The Immortal Man way before anyone was supposed to know! It’s so funny to think about. He plays Duke, Tommy Shelby’s son, and it’s a really important part in the new Netflix film, which is finally out in some theaters now.
Everyone learned the actor was joining the project in 2024, but his character remained a secret until the trailer was released last month. Surprisingly, Keoghan had actually hinted at the role earlier, and no one picked up on it!
During a BBC Radio 1 interview, Keoghan was asked which of his family and friends reacted most strongly to learning he’d been cast as Tommy’s son. He explained that he’d been cautious about telling people, though not always successfully.

I had to watch what I said and to whom, being careful not to reveal anything. It’s funny, I immediately named my dog Duke after filming finished, and nobody noticed! But my brother and everyone else were really excited about it.
Getting to work with Cillian Murphy was a real highlight. You spend your career hoping to collaborate with specific actors, and when the opportunity finally arrives, it’s incredibly exciting!

I was so surprised to see Duke Shelby back! He first showed up in season six, and Conrad Khan did a great job playing him. But the trailer for The Immortal Man totally blew me away – Barry Keoghan is taking on the role of an older Duke, and it looks like he’s become the head of the Peaky Blinders now! I can’t wait to see what happens.
Tommy’s wild behavior catches the attention of Ada Thorne, who warns him that his son is leading the gang with the same reckless abandon as days gone by. Despite wanting to stay away, Tommy is quickly pulled back into the criminal underworld.
Steven Knight, the creator and writer of Peaky Blinders, explained that the show’s six-year time jump led to the decision to cast Keoghan.

He told Digital Spy that while knowing when the character appeared helped them find the right actor, as soon as they saw the initial footage, it became clear they’d made the perfect choice – no one else could have played the part.
There’s no doubt it was him – he perfectly fits every requirement, and even exceeds expectations. The image of Barry and Cillian sitting at a bar, sharing a quiet drink and a look, without a word spoken, is simply stunning.
The new Peaky Blinders movie, ‘The Immortal Man,’ is currently playing in some theaters and will be available to stream on Netflix starting March 20th.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
