Barry Keoghan responds to online criticism about his personal life

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for the arts, I must say that Barry Keoghan’s recent interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast was nothing short of enlightening. His journey as an actor and his approach to life off-screen are both captivating and commendable.

Bird star Barry Keoghan has responded to criticism about his personal life.

The actor who won a BAFTA Film Award for his roles in “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Saltburn” has generally kept private about his life beyond the camera, yet there continues to be much curiosity in the media regarding his relationship with singer Sabrina Carpenter.

2022 saw Keoghan reveal that he already had a son from a past relationship, and it’s not surprising that he’s been cautious when discussing his experiences as a father in the public eye.

In a conversation with The Louis Theroux Podcast on Spotify, Keoghan defended himself against critics who have expressed concern over his lack of disclosure regarding his son.

He admitted, “There’s plenty available on the internet. Without resilience and thick skin, I wouldn’t be here. My upbringing certainly influences my parenting since I didn’t have a model to follow. People may misinterpret this as laziness and think, ‘That’s no excuse for being an absent father.’ However, I’m not an absent father.

However, people seem to enjoy using my son as a tool or weapon, which makes me hesitant. With increased attention and visibility recently, I’ve shared less about my child on social media, as I believe it’s unfair to expose them online.

Later on, the actor admitted, “Others construct a story and think ‘missing parent, bad father, unresponsive dad,’ and other vile remarks that I won’t even mention. The nerve of certain individuals, it truly appalls me, enrages me.

Louis Theroux advised the actor against spending his time on negative social media comments from individuals who aren’t familiar with him, suggesting he focus elsewhere instead.

Keoghan stated that he takes a break from social media during his acting roles, immersing himself in the character. He avoids the internet, but when he has some free time, he gets curious about what people are saying online, particularly when it involves negative comments about his appearance or fatherhood. In fact, he’s blocked certain words to prevent reading such remarks.

As a gamer, when someone asks me about the subjects I’ve blocked on social media, I’d say: “Topics like my son are off-limits, it’s disrespectful even to mention them. I’m just trying to earn a living and build a solid portfolio of work, all while ensuring a safe environment for my child.

During his career, this actor will appear in director Andrea Arnold’s production “Bird” and is set to play a part in an upcoming film titled “Peaky Blinders.
