Barry Keoghan decided to disable his Instagram following the boundary-pushing harassment he experienced on social platforms.
Last month, the Saltburn actor appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcast and hit back at those who have called him “an absent father and more disgusting things” online, adding: “Just the audacity of some people, man. It sickens me, makes me furious.”
On Saturday, December 7th, Keoghan disclosed that he shut down his Instagram account due to comments about his looks and personality that were stepping over a boundary.
As a passionate admirer, allow me to share a rephrased version of the statement: “I’ve reached my limit of endurance. My reputation has been tarnished online in ways I typically avoid responding to. However, the situation has escalated to a point where boundaries are being crossed, and I find myself compelled to speak up. I temporarily deactivated my account because I can no longer allow these distractions to overshadow my family life and professional commitments.
“The messages I have received no person should ever have to read them. Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.
Exhaustedly pulling along my cherished character, all that I’ve tirelessly built and represent. Discussing my background, which inadvertently involves mentioning my beloved mother as well.
Keoghan pointed out that the harassment is no longer confined to social media platforms. In fact, some individuals have taken it a step further by visiting his grandmother’s home and waiting outside the residence where his son lives.
He strives every single day to put in more effort, aiming to optimize both his physical health and mental strength for that young boy. My goal is to offer him chances to learn, make mistakes, and grow. I aspire for him to admire me, have unwavering trust in me, and understand that I’ll always be there to support him, no matter the circumstances.
