Barry Keoghan Meets Ringo Starr for Ultimate Beatles Biopic!

As a movie enthusiast eagerly anticipating the upcoming quartet of Fab Four biopics, I can’t help but feel the impending cinematic spectacle that lies ahead. With each member of The Beatles playing a crucial role in their story, the four-part series seems fitting, given Sony Pictures’ decision to dedicate a film to each band member.

In preparation for his portrayal of drummer Ringo Starr, Barry Keoghan has been honing his drumming skills tirelessly for weeks on end. The cherry on top? A recent encounter with the man himself – none other than The Beatles’ legendary drummer. This meeting served as a test of sorts, a challenge that I believe Barry passed with flying colors.

As we patiently wait for these movies to hit the big screen, the anticipation builds, and I can’t help but feel that this will be an unforgettable journey through the lives and music of The Beatles.

Keoghan recently made an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to publicize his forthcoming movie, the musical suspense flick titled “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” directed by Trey Edward Shults and featuring Jenna Ortega and The Weeknd in lead roles. During the interview, he also shared details about another film scheduled for release in 2026, “Crime 101,” in which MCU’s Chris Hemsworth stars. However, it was evident that what truly piqued his interest was discussing the Beatles biopic, a four-part series slated to feature Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, and Joseph Quinn portraying John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison respectively.

In the case of The Beatles biopic, it’s likely that the actors are putting in considerable effort to be authentic, given their iconic status. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays Ringo Starr, is working diligently to portray a believable version of Ringo, and he has even taken lessons to help him get into character. He also shared his experience meeting the music legend, but found it overwhelming to perform for him: “I recently met Ringo at his home…He played drums for me. He asked me to play in return, but I wasn’t playing the drums for Ringo.

Keoghan continues:

During our conversation, my eyes were elsewhere, as I was feeling jittery. However, he said, ‘Feel free to look at me.’ Being in the role of Ringo Starr, my task is to watch and learn about his nuances. My aim is to bring authenticity and emotions to the character, rather than simply mimicking him.

Initially, it was intended that the announcement about Keoghan playing the drummer would be kept confidential until Starr accidentally disclosed it last year. Interestingly, during a recent interview, the actor mentioned this: “He had said something like, ‘Barry is somewhere playing drums, I think he should stop and not do it anymore.’ However, he ended up revealing the news himself.

The Long and Winding Road to Make a Beatles Biopic

Filmmaker Sam Mendes, known for directing movies such as “American Beauty”, “1917” and “Skyfall”, is set to helm all four upcoming musical biopics about the famous band The Beatles. Among the writers are Jez Butterworth (of “Black Mass” and “Spectre”), Jack Thorne (“Tron: Ares” and Netflix’s “Adolescence”), and Peter Straughan (“Conclave”, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”). It has been disclosed that these films will share similar storylines, with each one offering a unique perspective on one of the Beatles.

The movies are set to come out in April 2028, however, it’s yet undecided whether they will simultaneously premiere in cinemas or be released one after another. Nonetheless, here’s a thrilling tidbit that might make fans as ecstatic as Beatles fans back in the ’60s: these films could potentially incorporate original recordings of Beatles songs. This is quite uncommon, given the band seldom grants permission to use their music in films. Notable exceptions include the TV series “Mad Men” and the 1986 movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” which included the songs “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “Twist and Shout,” respectively.
