As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for gritty British dramas, I am beyond thrilled about the potential Peaky Blinders adaptation. Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy Shelby was nothing short of mesmerizing, and I can only imagine what he would bring to the big screen. His journey over the past ten years has been significant, and yet, as Cillian himself said, “let’s keep moving.”

Barry Keoghan has joined the cast of the Peaky Blinders film, Netflix announced on Thursday.

In the forthcoming film, the 31-year-old actor from Saltburn is set to appear, though specifics about his character are still under wraps.

Over the last few years, Barry has built an impressive acting portfolio with notable roles in Saltburn, Top Boy, and The Banshees of Inisherin.

In June 2024, Netflix confirmed that the production of the upcoming feature film will commence by the end of this year as it has been given the green light.

As a devoted admirer, I can hardly contain my excitement as I delve into the next thrilling chapter of the critically acclaimed criminal chronicle! This time, we’re transported to the perilous backstreets of Birmingham during the 1900s, a world teeming with lawlessness and intrigue. The mastermind behind this gripping narrative is none other than our beloved creator, Steven Knight, who will join forces with Caryn Mandabach, Cillian Murphy, and Guy Heeley to bring this production to life!

The movie is being produced in collaboration with BBC Film. Tom Harper, who directed several episodes during the initial season back in 2013, will once again take charge as director for this film.

48-year-old Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy reprises his role as Tommy Shelby, a character he portrayed across six seasons from 2013 to 2022.

The plot and further casting remain tightly under wraps.

It was made official in June that the creative team behind Peaky Blinders, including their original scriptwriting and direction, would reunite for the Netflix movie version of this popular British show, with Cillian being part of the cast.

Netflix verified the announcement by sharing a script photo, whereas the Academy Award-winning actor informed Deadline: “It appears that Tommy Shelby isn’t done with me yet…”

‘It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.’

10 years back, when I initially took on directing ‘Peaky Blinders’, we had no idea it would grow into this phenomenal series, but we sensed a potent mix between our talented cast and the compelling script, which felt like an explosion waiting to happen.

It’s thrilling to be back together with Steve and Cillian, as we’ve always portrayed ‘Peaky’ as a tale of family. Now, we’re eager to share this movie experience with viewers worldwide on Netflix.

While Steven added: ‘I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.’

In March, Steven excited fans as he announced that Cillian would be featured in the movie during a visit to BirminghamWorld for the debut of his BBC series titled “This Town.”

He said: ‘[Cillian] is definitely returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.’

The movie will commence shooting at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham come September, with a backdrop of the Second World War era.

Last year, Cillian mentioned to Rolling Stone that if there is more story to tell about Thomas Shelby, he would be eager to continue the role. However, it must be done in a way that feels appropriate.

Steve Knight penned down 36 hours of television content, and the conclusion was nothing short of spectacular. I take immense pride in the final series, so there must be a genuine reason and justification to create more.

On BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in February, Cillian expressed similar sentiments, saying, “Whenever Knight provides a script that I believe he can excel at, given his exceptional writing skills, I’m ready to participate.”

He hilariously added: ‘If we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there. Let’s do it.’

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must confess that I breathed a sigh of relief when the BBC drama wrapped up in 2022. However, let me assure you, my enthusiasm for a cinematic adaptation has reached an all-time high, and I am now fully committed to this exciting new endeavor!

Following his initial Academy Award win in March, Cillian remarked about his character Tommy: “I enjoyed portraying him. He was draining and incredibly distinct from my usual roles, making each return to the character feel like a new adventure.”

‘I don’t get attached to work. For me, the next challenge is what excites me most. To be clear, those ten years were important in my life, but I’m always eager for what comes next and ready to move on.’

At the 96th Academy Awards, Cillian received the Oscar for Best Actor, honoring his remarkable portrayal of the main character in director Christopher Nolan’s film, Oppenheimer.

In his acceptance speech, Cillian told the star-studded room that he was ‘a very proud Irishman standing here tonight’ before dedicating his win to ‘peacemakers everywhere’.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but be thrilled by the whispers from the Irish heartthrob himself – there’s more tales to unravel about the notorious Shelby family of Birmingham, their intricate web of crime, and their captivating journey through the tumultuous times between the 1880s and 1910s!

The TV series Peaky Blinders debuted in 2013 and swiftly gained massive popularity not only in the UK but also abroad, leading to acting opportunities for renowned actors like Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy on the big screen.

As a committed enthusiast, I’d like to share that the essence of this program is drawn from a notorious Birmingham group, bearing the same moniker, active between the 1880s and the 1920s. Much like their fictional counterparts, they were engaged in similar clandestine activities.

Over the course of nine years, the hit show Peaky Blinders produced six seasons, culminating in a dramatic finale. In this closing act, Tommy, who had been deceived into thinking he was terminally ill, successfully weathered an assassination attempt masterminded by his very own nephew. The climax saw him taking his nephew’s life and then embarking on a fresh chapter elsewhere.

However, the news about Paul Anderson, known for his role as Arthur Shelby, Cillian Murphy’s older brother in the series, has raised concerns due to his recent conviction for possessing crack cocaine earlier this year.

The 45-year-old was also found to have amphetamines, plus diazepam and pregabalin on him.

His continued erratic behaviour in recent months has prompted concern for his welfare.

A close merchant, considering Paul as a dear friend, shared with TopMob: “It’s truly disheartening. He’s in quite a state. However, his unpredictable actions are causing genuine issues. Frequently, he appears confused and out of sorts.”

1. “Locally, he often gets into disagreements. You can usually hear him causing a stir as he goes about town. There’s a general sense of unease among us. Not too long ago, there was a heated altercation between him and someone at Tesco.”

1. ‘His behavior suggests he’s from another world, as he’s been seen roaming around without a shirt, and his walking is unsteady. This situation has become quite alarming because he seems to lack control over himself. It’s truly heartbreaking.’

It appeared that the actor was making improvements in his behavior – or rather his home environment – last month. He was spotted in London, shopping at Tesco for a range of cleaning items such as shampoo, Dove deodorant, paper towels, and Vanish stain remover.
