Barrowman Insists He Has No Regrets
Scottish actor John Barrowman maintains that he has no regrets following accusations of misconduct, which led to his being effectively banned from the entertainment world.
Since the accusation of inappropriate behavior on the sets of Doctor Who and Torchwood, where he exposed himself to colleagues, the actor born in Glasgow has faced difficulties finding new job opportunities.
However, the actor who portrayed Captain Jack Harkness has since defended his actions, which were reportedly occurring during the filming of BBC shows between 2005 and 2011. He asserted emphatically, “I have no regrets.
2021 saw the emergence of what seemed to be inappropriate conduct on his part. When asked by STV’s Scotland Tonight if his peers found his actions merely harmless fun, Mr. Barrowman stated that no one had expressed any complaints.
Regarding questions about if his leading role on the set influenced the balance of power, Mr. Barrowman responded by stating that during his time on Doctor Who, he considered himself simply as one of the supporting characters, or companions.
He stated: ‘Everyone seemed to be acting in wild, foolish ways. It’s simply that they didn’t find themselves entangled in this predicament due to sloppy reporting.’
As a lifestyle connoisseur, allow me to clarify a common misunderstanding. When asked if I was casually exposing myself or behaving inappropriately, I emphatically say ‘absolutely not.’ While my actions may have seemed unconventional, I assure you, it wasn’t about randomly flashing people or engaging in such behavior. The confusion lies in the interpretation; what appeared to be flamboyant displays were simply expressions of individuality and creativity that are part of my unique approach to life.
As an ardent admirer, if I were called for a nude scene, they might suggest, “shall we return to your trailer?” To which I’d respond, “no, just let me stay here.” It was intended to be a secluded set, and I’d insist, “please, leave me here. This way, we can save time. I won’t need to go back, change, then have you bring me again, and we can skip the repetition of starting all over from scratch.
In such a scenario, should I find myself exposed, I would remain unclothed and natural, and if an unauthorized individual entered the set, I may subtly draw attention to my presence by making a casual gesture like this [indicates a slight movement]. Rest assured, it was nothing scandalous or inappropriate.
‘I didn’t see it as outrageous. It was a different time.’
2021 saw Mr. Barrowman stepping down from his role as a judge on STV’s Dancing on Ice after accusations were made against him, while he was promoting his UK tour titled Laid Bare.
He has said since he was ‘blacklisted completely’ from the entertainment industry.
Inquired about any regrets regarding his actions, Mr. Barrowman, with a distinct Scottish accent, responded, “I have no regrets whatsoever.
‘It’s not so much regret; it was something that was stupid and silly and it was done.
I didn’t turn around and reminisce then, as everyone was chuckling. The entire film set was filled with laughter during that moment.
On Thursdays at 8:30 PM, you can catch “Scotland Tonight: A Chat with John Barrowman” on both STV and the STV Player.
