BAFTAs 2025: Conclave & Ralph Fiennes to Sweep?
On Sunday evening, the 2025 British Academy Television Awards will kick off, gathering some of the most talented individuals from the film industry at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
For six years straight, the grand event filled with celebrities was hosted at the Royal Albert Hall. However, come 2023, this prestigious occasion found a new location: the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. It is here that the event will resume its annual happening.
In a number of categories, the highly anticipated thriller “The Conclave” is predicted to win, particularly the prestigious Best Film category. It will compete with four other films: “The Brutalist”, “Anora”, “A Complete Unknown”, and “Emilia Perez”.
A gripping mystery unfolds in this popular thriller featuring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini. It centers around a clandestine and high-pressure election for a new Pope, where power, ambition, and hidden truths come to a head as rival cardinals engage in fierce competition.
I’ve been absolutely thrilled by the turn of events! The Spanish masterpiece, Emilia Perez, may have triumphed at the Golden Globes, but it was my beloved production that took the spotlight at the BAFTAs. It outshone Emilia Perez, receiving an impressive 11 nominations, surpassing its 10 golden statuettes won at the Globes last month. I can hardly contain my excitement!
Yet, being hailed as a victor at numerous events on the other side, The Brutalist is also strongly tipped as a potential winner.
If Conclave doesn’t win the Best Film award, it is virtually assured to win the Outstanding British Film award, as it is competing against a diverse array of films in that category.
A Case of Revenge.
In this version, I’ve used more common vocabulary, replaced technical terms (such as “shortlist” with “list”), and made some adjustments to the titles for clarity. For example, “Vengeance Most Fowl” was rephrased as “A Case of Revenge” to make it easier for a wider audience to understand.
In the realm of acting, British star Ralph is among the frontrunners to receive the Best Actor award, and he’s anticipated to compete directly against Adrien Brody for this prestigious title.
Among the other contenders for the Best Actor award are Timothée Chalamet in “A Complete Unknown”, Colman Domingo in “Sing Sing”, Hugh Grant in “Heretic”, and Sebastian Stan in “The Apprentice”.
Demi Moore stands as a strong contender for the Best Actress award due to her critically praised performance in “The Substance.” On the other hand, longtime British actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste is another potential winner for her role in “Hard Truths.
In my professional opinion, Emilia Pérez, a name that once sparkled brightly on the horizon, has found herself entangled in a whirlwind of controversy lately. A series of historic tweets from her past have resurfaced, causing a pause in her award-winning journey.
In this competition, Cynthia Erivo (from Wicked), Mikey Madison (known for Anora), and Saoirse Ronan (of The Outrun) will each take their turn to compete.
After winning all the significant accolades during this awards season, Kieran Culkin is anticipated to take home the award for Best Supporting Actress for the film “A Real Pain.” However, it’s possible that Guy Pearce could surprise everyone with his performance in “The Brutalist.

Additional contenders for the award are Yura Borisov (Anora), Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice). In simpler terms, these individuals have also been nominated.
Zoe Saldana is often favored as the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress due to her portrayal of Emilia Perez, but there’s a strong desire among fans that Ariana Grande might win for her role as Glinda in Wicked.
The quartet will go head-to-head featuring Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Jamie Lee Curtis (The Last Showgirl), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave).
In the 2024 film “Back To Black,” Marisa Abela’s performance as Amy Winehouse has put her at the forefront of the contenders for the EE BAFTA Rising Star Award.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must say that the industry’s shining star has garnered the most buzz for the esteemed accolade up for grabs. What sets this award apart is its unique democratic nature – it’s the one and only trophy chosen by the public at large.
The list has been narrowed down to five contenders: Marisa, Jharrel Jerome (known for his role in ‘Unstoppable’), David Jonsson (renowned for ‘Alien: Romulus’), Mikey Madison (‘Anora’ actress), and Nabhaan Rizwan (‘In Camera’ actor).
Sara Putt, BAFTA’s chairwoman, expressed to the Press Association news agency that this year’s BAFTA nomination list showcases an outstanding diversity.
She commented: “Moreover, if you examine the top 10 movies in the ‘Best Film’ category, I believe you’ll find that they represent at least six distinct movie genres.
In a variety of genres – sci-fi, comedy, horror, drama, and even musicals – nominations have been given out. Notably, among the horror category, films like Nosferatu, The Substance, and Heretic have all been recognized.

The range of movies here, spanning from ‘Wicked’ to ‘Kneecap’, showcases a fantastic assortment of films that offer both variety and depth. It’s truly thrilling to see such an extensive and diverse selection.
Winning this award is often considered a stepping stone towards achieving A-list fame, with past recipients such as Tom Holland, James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Lashana Lynch, and Kristen Stewart.
David Tennant is set to return as the host of the BAFTAs for a consecutive year, following his successful debut last year when he replaced Richard E. Grant in the role.
Without a doubt, he’s likely to showcase his charm and wit, having already made a successful entrance that captivated more than 3.8 million home viewers after its highly praised premiere.
Over 20 million times, highlights from the ceremony were watched by fans via social media platforms as they caught up on it.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share some insights about the BAFTAs. Typically, Prince William, who serves as the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), graces the red carpet with his partner Catherine. However, this year, it appears that the Waleses might not be present at the ceremony.
Last year, Kate had to miss out on the awards as she announced earlier, through a video message on March 22, that she was battling cancer. On the other hand, Prince William attended the Baftas by himself, walking down the red carpet.
The 2025 EE Bafta Film Awards will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7pm on Sunday February 16.
