The internet is buzzing after Jeff Goldblum was unexpectedly questioned about the adult film “Heated Rivalry” during a somewhat uncomfortable red carpet interview before the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards.
During an interview with E!’s Keltie Knight on the red carpet, 73-year-old Jeff Goldblum was asked about the HBO Max show and whether he’d ‘been to the cottage.’ The question seemed to confuse Goldblum, as he isn’t involved with the series.
This Canadian TV show is inspired by a popular book from TikTok’s ‘BookTok’ community. It centers on two competitive hockey players who begin a passionate, hidden relationship that unfolds over several years. ‘The cottage’ refers to the house they visit together in the final episode of the season.
Knight started by saying Goldblum’s film, Wicked, was incredibly popular and all anyone could talk about for the past two years. However, a new project called Heated Rivalry is now grabbing everyone’s attention. He then asked if Goldblum had heard of it, knew anything about it, or even visited the location where it’s filmed.
Goldblum admitted he really wanted to agree, but couldn’t because he felt it would be wrong. He confessed to a past mistake – chopping down a cherry tree – and emphasized that he’s always been honest. He then jokingly called himself a fool for even considering a ‘heated rivalry.’
‘It’s a love story about two hockey players, two men, they fall in love,’ Knight explained.

“Hold on,” he said. “That’s enough. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m eager to – I’ve heard wonderful things about it.”
‘You come back to me once you watch it!’ Knight replied.
Immediately after the interview was broadcast, people on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their surprise and confusion about one unexpected question.
‘OMG ASKING JEFF GOLDBLUM ABOUT HEATED RIVALRY BEFORE ASKING ABOUT WICKED,’ one person tweeted.
Someone mentioned people are asking Jeff Goldblum if he’s aware of the drama and if he’s visited the cottage, and they used a lot of crying emojis to show how upset they are.
Honestly, I was completely baffled by a recent question I saw online. Someone actually asked Jeff Goldblum if he’d seen HR – like, the department! It just struck me as… a really odd line of questioning. It made me wonder if everything’s alright with the person asking, you know? It was just a head-scratcher!
‘why are they asking JEFF GOLDBLUM about hr im crying,’ another posted.
‘Jeff Goldblum was so lost,’ another wrote.
Despite a slightly strange moment, Jeff Goldblum took the opportunity during the interview to wish his wife, Emilie Livingston, a happy 43rd birthday.
Speaking with E!, he said: ‘Happy birthday Emilie Goldblum.’

The couple attended the 31st annual Critics’ Choice Awards in Santa Monica on Sunday, and they looked fantastic.
Jeff Goldblum, attending and presenting at the awards show, looked sharp in a black-and-white suit and bow tie. His new movie, Wicked: For Good, has been nominated for seven awards today.
With his hair neatly combed back and a pair of sunglasses, the actor perfectly embodied classic Hollywood glamour.
His wife, 43, accompanied him on the red carpet, wearing a stylish black dress with a striking V-neck that created an off-the-shoulder effect.
She completed her look with a bit of attitude, pairing leather gloves and matching slingback shoes with a vibrant red lipstick for a splash of color.

Jeff Goldblum’s latest movie, Wicked: For Good, where he returns as The Wizard, received eight nominations for the Critics’ Choice Awards. These include nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, Best Casting and Ensemble, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Makeup, and Best Song.
Awards season officially begins this Sunday, January 4th, with the glamorous 31st annual Critics Choice Awards being held in Santa Monica.
Chelsea Handler is hosting for the fourth year in a row as the annual awards show kicks off at the Barker Hangar. The event is known for being a glamorous night and often predicts which celebrities and projects will be successful throughout awards season.
The Critics Choice Awards are well-known in Hollywood for reliably predicting the winners at the Oscars.
Last season proved how well Anora can predict success. Despite not winning at the Golden Globes or SAG Awards, its Critics Choice Best Picture win gave it a significant boost, which helped it continue gaining momentum and ultimately win at the Academy Awards.
Adrien Brody, Kieran Culkin, and Zoe Saldaña each won an acting award at the Oscars, just as they had at the Critics Choice Awards.
Since the Golden Globes aren’t on TV until January 11th, the Critics Choice Awards will be the first big awards show of 2026. This gives films and performers a valuable opportunity to gain momentum early in the awards season.
