Bad news for Colin Farrell fans as his “masterpiece” crime thriller gets disappointing update

The highly praised crime thriller, “The Penguin” featuring Colin Farrell, has unfortunately been met with some disheartening news about its upcoming plans.

In 2022’s “The Batman,” a new HBO series is set to delve into the story of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, portrayed by Farrell, as he navigates his way up in Gotham City’s criminal world and interacts with the Falcone family.

Although labeled as a limited series, the impressive critical and popular success of The Penguin sparked demands from fans for another season. However, it appears that HBO has chosen not to produce a sequel, as suggested by their plans for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Prior to the scheduled event on September 14th, HBO has formally nominated “The Penguin” for Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Limited Series category. This move suggests that they view the series as a standalone production.

Although it might seem like the end of the show, given that it was originally planned as a limited series and honored with Emmy awards, HBO has a history of reviving shows for additional episodes after similar decisions. Indeed, Big Little Lies returned for a second season in 2019.

The disheartening news is that, despite previous comments from Channing Dungey, who serves as both Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros Television Group and WBD US Networks, there are currently no plans for a second season. However, she hinted at the possibility by saying “never say never”.

The character “The Penguin” is a subject that sparks intrigue because when you engage with those involved, they all seem keen on revisiting these characters and potentially creating more content. Originally conceived as a limited series, it was designed with a finite scope in mind. However, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of revisiting it in the future. This was shared during an interview with Deadline.

If we can manage to align all the creative elements perfectly, especially with the involvement of Colin, Cristin Milioti, and their team, then I believe this project could become a reality. However, currently, no plans are underway.

It’s highly likely that both fans and critics will be left feeling let down by the show’s progression, given its remarkable 95% approval rating from 210 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The acting of Farrell and Milioti was universally lauded, and the series was even dubbed a “masterpiece” by _SuperHeroHype_ and _Dynamic Duel_.

The Penguin is streaming on Max.
