Bad Monkey and Emily in Paris are among the 10 most-watched shows on streaming right now
As a dedicated streaming enthusiast who’s been navigating the digital landscape since the days of VHS tapes and Betamax, I can confidently say that this week’s top 10 most-watched shows on streaming is an exciting mix of old favorites and fresh newcomers. Prime Video has truly outdone itself with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a series that’s taken the fantasy genre to new heights, leaving us all anticipating the next episode.
It was pleasing to observe that ‘House of the Dragon’ reclaimed the position as TV’s top-viewed series last week, but it seems another new show (and an old favorite) have now seized the spotlight. As a dedicated gamer and Prime Video enthusiast, I’ve got to say that my go-to streaming platform this week is hands down Prime Video! It’s dominating the charts with an impressive three of its series gracing the top 10 list, including the freshly released fantasy-drama, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” However, it seems like Disney+ originals are nowhere to be found on this week’s list. While “Grey’s Anatomy” is the most-streamed show on Disney+, it’s a network show, so unfortunately, it can’t make an appearance here in our rankings.
Surprisingly, Apple TV+’s new show “Bad Monkey” has climbed its way to the second spot on the top 5 streaming series list just a week after its premiere on Aug. 14. It seems I underestimated its popularity, as I thought it would take until the second week to make the list. In contrast, Netflix’s popular show “Emily in Paris” remains at the top spot.
The top 10 most-watched shows on streaming (Aug. 1-7)
- Emily in Paris on Netflix
- Bad Monkey on Apple TV+
- American Murder: Laci Peterson on Netflix
- House of the Dragon on Max
- Rick and Morty: The Anime on Max
- Presumed Innocent on Apple TV+
- The Boys on Prime Video
- The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video
- Batman: Caped Crusader on Prime Video
- Evil on Paramount+
1. Are any of the top 10 shows catching your eye? Does the popularity of current series affect your decision on what to watch next?
Moving forward to our predictions for next week, I believe “Emily in Paris” and “Bad Monkey” will continue to rank high, but “American Murder: Laci Peterson”, being a three-part documentary that can be easily consumed within a day, may drop off. “Reasonable Doubt” season 2 on Hulu and “Bel-Air” season 3 could also appear next. I’m curious if we’ll see the “Love Island” season 6 reunion in the top 10. Despite being a one-episode special, its massive following can hardly be overstated. The real excitement will start with the arrival of new fall TV shows.
