Bad Bunny, Karol G and more Latinos make the list of top global tours

As a movie buff with a penchant for music and a soft spot for Latin culture, I can confidently say that we are witnessing the golden age of Latin music. Growing up listening to the likes of Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan, it’s heartening to see this genre flourish on a global scale.

Approximately one-quarter of the world’s leading 20 touring artists are Latin musicians, as per recent statistics by Pollstar.

During the week commencing August 5th, industry reports show that Bad Bunny ranks third with an average earnings from each city’s box office of approximately $3,816,973. Luke Combs leads this list in first place, followed by Dead & Company in second. The data takes into account the worldwide ticket prices and average box office earnings per city for every artist.

Besides Bad Bunny, Colombian artist Karol G ranks at number 9, earning an average of $2,320,979 per city from box office sales. Aventura, a bachata band from Puerto Rico led by Romeo Santos, stands at number 11 with their upcoming reunion tour in 2024 titled “Cerrando Ciclos.” Mexican pop sensation Luis Miguel, who has captivated audiences worldwide since 1982, is ranked 13th on the list. Lastly, reggaeton artist Feid from Colombia holds the number 17 spot among the Top 20 Global Concert Tours.

Following the release of Luminate’s mid-year music report on July 16, which analyzed entertainment data, it was discovered that Latin music is currently the fastest-growing genre on U.S. streaming platforms. Oscar Areliz, a Pollstar reporter, noted that the global touring market has undergone significant transformations.

Previously, it appeared as though the market would temporarily appear and then fade away, only to reemerge strongly. Areliz recalled instances of Latin waves in our history, where artists such as Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan managed to make a significant impact on the mainstream music scene.

Areliz considers the unveiling of “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee in 2017 as a pivotal moment that significantly shaped the current landscape of Latin music.

“The song ‘Despacito’ firmly established Latin music in the mainstream and has consistently maintained its presence. Following this trend, artists such as Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Peso Pluma have been courageous by exploring new sounds and pushing boundaries. Their innovative approach is captivating listeners everywhere.”

Hans Schafer, Live Nation’s Senior Vice President of Global Touring, considers Karol G as a trailblazer within her music genre. At just 33 years old, this singer made history by expanding her tour beyond Latin and North America, with performances in Europe for the first time.

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at the phenomenal success of Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito Tour. This cinematic extravaganza, much like a blockbuster movie sweeping across the globe, sold out and marked a historic milestone as the most prominent European tour for any Latin artist. It serves as a testament to the universal appeal and captivating power of Latin music.

On her European tour, Karol G performed in a total of nine nations, such as Spain, France, England, and Germany among others. Across ten shows, she successfully sold approximately 415,000 tickets collectively, establishing this tour as the largest Latino music tour ever held in Europe, as reported by various sources.

According to Schafer, these figures confirm a long-held belief in our field that Latin music has a universal appeal. It seems there’s no stopping its momentum.
