Bad Batch: Sean Kiner wrote Omega’s Theme with his newborn daughter in his lap
As a dedicated fan of Star Wars and a proud father, I was deeply moved by composer Sean Kiner’s heartfelt story during his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. His account of creating “Omega’s Theme” brought tears to my eyes as I could resonate with the deep emotional connection he had with his newborn daughter and the hope she represented in a dark world.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, I was part of the crowd in The Character of Music: The Art of Scoring for Animation panel. During this event, the talented composer of The Bad Batch, Sean Kiner, graced us with his presence. As he took the microphone, I eagerly listened, excited to learn about his work on Star Wars.
As a passionate creator, when I penned “Omega’s Theme,” I shared through Broadcast Music Inc.’s Twitter account that the pandemic had only just begun. My precious little daughter, a newborn, was snuggled in my lap during those moments, a tiny beacon of joy amidst the gloom. The world seemed shrouded in darkness, and everything appeared bleak. Yet, holding her brought forth an overwhelming sense of potential, hope, and determination to ensure that her life would be filled with love and happiness. It was this tender emotion that I channeled into the composition of [Omega’s Theme]. With my fingers dancing on the keyboard, her sweet presence was ever-present, making it impossible not to associate the creation of that melody with her.
Subsequently, he delved into the climax of the series where fully grown Omega bids farewell to Hunter before departing from their island residence Pabu. With a heavy heart, Hunter watches as she takes off, embarking on her new journey with the Rebellion without the company of her Batchmates.
“This unexpected moment arrives,” Kiner exclaims, drawing chuckles from the crowd. “It’s as if she’s embarking on her college journey or the like. I may be overdramatizing, but I can’t help but be elated whenever my kids achieve new milestones! ‘Wow, a new person!’ I’m thrilled, yet I also feel a pang of sadness. I bid farewell to the previous version, grieving for the one who was.”
Sean Kiner, the composer behind BMI’s Omega theme for Star Wars, gets sentimental while discussing it during “The Character of Music: The Art of Scoring for Animation” at ComicCon2024. His emotions resonate with @KinerMusic as he reflects on #BMIScores. 🎶🎞️

At San Diego Comic-Con, we were touched by an heartwarming scene that beautifully encapsulates the essence of Omega in “The Bad Batch.” She served as the team’s compassionate core, frequently offering wise counsel, and striving to find goodness in all. It’s truly fitting that Sean Kiner drew inspiration for this beloved character from such a genuine wellspring of his own joy.
All three seasons of Star Wars: The Bad Batch are available to stream on Disney+.
