Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean reunites with estranged wife Rochelle to celebrate Las Vegas residency opening

AJ McLean, who had been separated from his spouse Rochelle McLean, came together again to celebrate the kickoff of the Backstreet Boys‘ performance series at the renowned Sphere in Las Vegas.

During the weekend, a family photo featuring an estranged spouse of a Backstreet Boys member appeared on her Instagram account, capturing a heartwarming moment.

In this selfie, the 47-year-old vocalist is smiling with a professional make-up artist, hair stylist, and their two kids – daughters Elliot who’s 12 years old and Lyric who’s 8.

Two years have passed since McLean and his former spouse publicly declared their temporary separation, which occurred in March 2023, with the intention of fostering a more robust future.

The next year, they announced that they had made the decision to formally terminate their marriage in January 2024, marking the conclusion of their 12-year union.

In February, McLean along with the other members of the Backstreet Boys declared their summer 2024 engagement at the renowned Sphere in Las Vegas. This makes them the inaugural pop group to perform at this innovative venue.

In her social media post, McLean and the Backstreet Boys were mentioned by Rochelle (his wife) as she excitedly shared about their live performance.

‘Opening night @spherevegas was really something special,’ she wrote via Instagram. 

‘I can only express my admiration by saying you must witness it yourself. Fantastic job, gentlemen! Your performance along with your team and crew was simply breathtaking, the best spectacle I have ever had the pleasure to behold!’

Additionally, he penned a heartfelt message in reply to her post, expressing gratitude towards his loved ones for their backing.

He expressed his deep affection by writing, ‘I adore you all tremendously.’ The experience wouldn’t have felt as special without his daughters present to help inaugurate this fantastic residency!

They posted a picture of their girls dressed in matching white ensembles and lanyards, smiling alongside their father on stage.

The picture displayed the mother bursting with pride and her adolescent children, all striking a pose for a group selfie, seated comfortably in their spots at the performance.

Rochelle posted numerous pictures too, showcasing the famous location and the Backstreet Boys’ performances alongside them at different stages of their stage show throughout their residency.

McLean and his bandmates made an announcement on Instagram way back in February, revealing that they had planned a series of nine concerts from their ‘Into the Millennium’ tour for July.

Since then, their residency shows have been extended well into the month of August. 

Over the past month, McLean shared insights on how they’ve managed co-parenting since their 2024 split, stating that their family has been thriving overall.

He said to Us Weekly in June that we’re doing our best with co-parenting, and we both still have a fair amount of personal growth ahead, but I believe we’re progressing towards something very beneficial.

He mentioned that, despite their separation, he and his ex-spouse will forever share a bond and stay near due to their shared offspring.

‘We have a family together that’s obviously not going anywhere,’ he explained to the outlet. 

We’ve been spending a considerable amount of quality family time together, and occasionally, she and I have gone out on casual dates.

I hope it all turns out well in the long run, but no matter what happens, we’ll remain connected and filled with love for one another, striving to be the best parents possible for our daughters,” he expressed regarding their separation.

McLean married Rochelle over a decade ago in December 2011. 

A few months back, I was on cloud nine when he shared his optimism that they might reunite, despite parting ways about a dozen years into their marital journey and calling it temporary.

I believe we’re nearly at our optimal point, which gives us a lot of optimism about what’s ahead. After all, who can predict what the future holds?
