Bachelorette Star Stu Laundy Escapes Deadly Vietnam Crash: ‘Lucky to Be Alive’
Stu Laundy openly shared that he considers himself fortunate to still be alive, having been part of a severe motorbike accident during his travels in Vietnam.
In a shocking incident, a 52-year-old celebrity known for reality TV shows and being a wealthy pub owner was hit by a truck while riding his motorcycle. The collision threw him off the bike and resulted in severe injuries that put his life at risk.
At the time of the accident, Laundy was vacationing with his family. He was transported back to Australia aboard a privately-owned medical jet, which functioned as an airborne hospital, equipped with a doctor and two nursing staff.
It was largely due to his father, a billionaire named Arthur, who left no stone unturned to guarantee immediate medical attention for his son.
For a period, I found myself alternating between consciousness and unconsciousness. Suffering from injuries to the knee, sternum, shoulder, ribs, as well as blood clots in my lungs and infections, I was in a critical condition. Luckily, due to the limited capabilities of Vietnam’s hospitals, my father arranged for me to be flown back home. Reflecting on this experience, I consider myself extremely fortunate. (Laundy told The Daily Telegraph)
The victor from The Bachelorette (who had a well-known relationship with Sophie Monk after the 2017 season) acknowledged his ex-spouse Rachel, a traveling nurse in their family, for being with him and supervising the initial care provided at the scene.

‘Rachel never left my side,’ Laundy added.
It’s fortunate that she was present. The incident occurred unexpectedly; I was cruising on my motorbike when a truck suddenly veered out of its lane and collided with me. Given my age, 52, one might question my decision to ride a motorbike, but the truck driver has acknowledged fault.
Following his return journey, Laundy was urgently taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney for a pair of surgical procedures.
He is still in recovery and slowly regaining his strength.
Laundy is a fixture in Sydney’s social scene and a key figure in his family’s hospitality empire.
Additionally, he is recognized for playing a significant role in arranging the historic recruitment of Phil Gould by the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2021.
Known as one of the most sought-after single gentlemen in Sydney, his fame skyrocketed when he was crowned the winner of Sophie Monk’s Bachelorette season in 2017.
Despite the brief duration of their relationship, it ended in January 2018, as confirmed by Sophie, who was 41 years old at the time.

She tried her hardest, with sincere intentions that matched what she had expressed, but sadly things didn’t turn out as planned.
In her extensive post, she acknowledged that since her relationship became so open, there is a need for her to address questions about her personal life from the Australian public.
In this situation, I had hoped to find a place to establish roots and build a family. I put forth my utmost effort, and my aims were sincere and in line with what I expressed, however, despite that, things simply didn’t turn out as planned.
The former Bardot singer added: ‘As much as I respect him we are just very different people.’
