Bachelor host Osher Günsberg finally breaks his silence as entire crew moves to new spin-off without him: ‘One person lost their job – me’
After remaining quiet, Osher Gunsberg has shared his thoughts following his exclusion from the forthcoming revival of The Bachelor Australia.
50-year-old popular television presenter, known for hosting The Bachelor Australia since its launch in 2013, disclosed that among all members associated with The Bachelor franchise, he was the one not invited back to rejoin the team.
Osher found it both sweet and bitter to see the new adaptation flourish on another channel, without his involvement.
‘When The Bachelor moved networks, one person lost their job. Me,’ he told Chattr this week.
‘My wife worked on [The Golden Bachelor]. I think Sam’s gonna do a cracking job.’

2025 will see the launch of a fresh take on the popular show, The Golden Bachelor Australia, which will be broadcast on Channel Nine. Notably, media personality Samantha Armytage has been chosen as the host for this new version. This move comes after Channel 10 decided to cancel the original series in 2023, leading to significant changes in the show’s lineup.
Despite the snub, Osher said he holds no resentment over being left out of the project.
He noted that the 110 other individuals involved in producing that show, whom he has been acquainted with for a decade, continued to work, and it’s that persistence that truly counts.
These highly talented individuals are the sole experts in the nation who can produce that particular show. It’s crucial that these positions are safeguarded.
He expressed his excitement saying, “Given the current state of contraction in our field, I’m genuinely pleased for them.” He further explained, “I have personal connections with each of them, and I’ve seen their children grow up. They are all exceptionally talented in their respective professions.
In my own words, I expressed: ‘I’ve made my decision – this is the path I’ve chosen for myself. If maintaining a steady desk job was my priority, I wouldn’t have ventured into this field. But I chose this lifestyle, and I’m aware that its challenges are an inherent part of it.’
The television presenter, participating in Dancing with the Stars Australia 2025, confessed that he foresaw the decline in the show’s popularity several years back when its viewership started dropping.
Once a ratings juggernaut, The Bachelor Australia has been on a steady decline for years.

In the year 2021, its season premiere was watched by only 224,000 viewers in metropolitan areas, marking a record-low debut compared to previous seasons. This is significantly lower than the 309,000 viewers from the preceding season and a stark contrast to the over 1 million viewers who tuned in during Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins’ era in 2018. Viewership numbers continued to decline throughout the season.
2024 saw Sam Armytage, a longtime co-anchor on Sunrise, depart from Channel Seven following two decades on screen. She explained that the constant pressure had grown too intense, describing it as overwhelming, and felt it was an opportune moment to seek new horizons.
Come October 2024, I found myself gracing the role of host for The Golden Bachelor Australia on Channel Nine – a moment that filled me with immense joy and anticipation! I can’t wait to share a fresh, heartwarming take on Aussie television, making every episode a delightful experience for viewers.
Australian publication Daily Mail Australia disclosed that Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, a 50-something infrastructure engineer residing on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, is set to become Australia’s inaugural Golden Bachelor following his sighting filming during March 2025 at historical homes in Elizabeth Bay.
Instead of shows like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette that focus on younger participants seeking romance, The Golden Bachelor caters to an older demographic interested in observing the journey of individuals who’ve previously known significant love and heartbreak as they pursue companionship during a new phase of life.
‘Bear is not your usual reality TV type,’ an insider told Daily Mail Australia.
I, indeed, possess a captivating charm, intelligence, and a wealth of life experiences that span love, loss, and renewal. Now, with an open heart, I am eager to embrace new connections. I have no doubt that many women will find me appealing.
Ever since the U.S. version of The Golden Bachelor made its grand entrance and garnered widespread praise last year, I’ve found myself joining the chorus of passionate Aussie fans clamoring for our very own adaptation of this beloved show.
