Fans of Stephen King are eagerly anticipating the movie adaptation of his short story “The Life of Chuck,” directed by filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who is renowned for his spine-tingling novels like “Cujo,” “Salem’s Lot,” and “It.” What sets this tale apart is its more inspiring narrative compared to King’s usual horror themes. Consequently, fans of Mike Flanagan, another respected writer-director in the horror genre, are curious to see how he has translated King’s work onto the silver screen.
For several years, Flanagan has been a prominent figure in the horror genre, but it was with the debut of his hit Netflix series, “The Haunting of Hill House” (2018), that he truly reached superstardom. This was followed by another successful venture, “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” In both shows, Oliver Jackson-Cohen played a role. Recently, Jackson-Cohen spoke with MovieWeb during the promotion of his latest miniseries, “Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero.” During this conversation, he reminisced about Flanagan’s groundbreaking work on “Hill House,” stating that it was almost like Flanagan had been nurturing that project for a decade.
It was an absolutely unforgettable journey. Playing Luke in the initial version of it all is something I’ll always be grateful to Mike for allowing me to do. The memories, moments, and influences this experience has had on my life are immeasurable, so I owe a great debt of gratitude to Mike Flanagan… he’s truly a brilliant individual.
Fans of Blumhouse productions will remember Oliver-Jackson’s outstanding performance in the 2020 movie “The Invisible Man”. Speaking about his experience, Oliver-Jackson shared, “I enjoyed working with Blumhouse. I admired the entire team. They’re incredibly smart. I really enjoyed working with Leigh Whannell.” Without a doubt, he would be open to collaborating with them again. As he put it, “When you find people [and] you’re fortunate enough to work with people who are that clever, you embrace the opportunity.
Stunt Doubles for Everything
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but share my excitement over the latest limited series from Jackson-Cohen, “Towards Zero,” now available on BritBox. This versatile actor has proven his prowess extends beyond the horror genre with this captivating crime series. He masterfully portrays Nevile, a charming ladies’ man and renowned tennis player, in Agatha Christie’s acclaimed 1944 novel adaptation.
The three thrilling episodes unfold as Nevile finds himself ensnared in a complex love triangle. The scenes showcasing his tennis prowess and graceful dancing leave one wondering: Did Jackson-Cohen possess experience in either of these areas prior to joining “Towards Zero”?
Jackson-Cohen admitted to having no prior experience and hopefully it wasn’t noticeable. He shared an interesting twist: despite his fear of tennis, he hadn’t considered his lack of dancing skills until now. It seems his dance performances have been less successful in the show. We had a ‘double dose’: double duties for tennis and dancing. It felt like they threw in the extra one at the last minute. In summary, Jackson-Cohen suggested that he should avoid any physically demanding activities in future projects.
