Axed Channel Seven newsreader reveals the single reason why she couldn’t say goodbye to viewers on air

As a dedicated follower of Sharyn Ghidella’s journalistic career, I am deeply saddened by her sudden departure from Seven News in Queensland. Her absence from our screens has left many viewers, including myself, feeling a sense of loss and disconnection.

Many people were taken aback when Sharyn Ghidella, the anchor of Seven News in Queensland, was suddenly let go from her position earlier this month.

Fans were taken aback when the cherished 58-year-old TV figure went missing from our screens without a farewell message.

Sharyn recently disclosed that she missed the opportunity to bid her sizeable and devoted fans goodbye.

For seventeen long years, I’ve been anchoring newsdesk broadcasts, but as I prepare for my last bulletin, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming urge to let down my professional guard and allow my emotions to surface. However, in a heartfelt confession, I choose to remain steadfastly dedicated to delivering the news with unwavering accuracy and objectivity.

‘I think it was the emotional side of it,’ she confessed on Friday in The Courier Mail.

I wasn’t confident I could keep my feelings under control. I didn’t want to present the news, requiring utmost professionalism, if I wasn’t entirely calm.

In my commitment to delivering high-quality content, I recognize that imperfections, such as making errors or having a shaky voice, are not acceptable. Our valued viewers deserve nothing less than the best from me.

Elsewhere in the chat, Sharyn said she considered viewers ‘friends’.

“In reality,” she continued, “spending evenings with them in their living rooms for five days a week implies a great deal of trust on their part towards you.”

I used to be in touch with them, but our relationship is no longer intact, leaving me feeling somewhat adrift.

After Ghidella announced her termination in a passionate Facebook update earlier this month, I was taken aback by the news.

When Max Futcher filled in for his former co-host during the 6pm news broadcast, he expressed deep feelings and strong passions about her in a heartfelt manner following her unexpected departure.

Tonight, she didn’t prefer a goodbye and wasn’t comfortable with us making a big deal. However, we’d like to express our gratitude to Sharyn Ghidella for her exceptional service of 17 years at 7News Brisbane’s desk.

As a devoted admirer and learner from your vast experience, I consider you a true professional and an accomplished journalist. To all of us present here, you are more than just a colleague – you’re also a cherished friend and guiding mentor. And on a personal note, you hold a special place in my heart as my trusted companion.

Sharyn’s presence in your lives has been significant, and she views this role as an honor.

In her recent post, Ghidella shared that she received some long-awaited news while getting her hair done at the salon. She described this moment as bringing a sense of relief after several weeks of worry due to media job losses.

After working in television for 38 years, I’ve grown accustomed to the occasional tap on the shoulder. Today, that anticipated tap finally arrived. Ghidella made this statement.

‘It wasn’t quite how I expected it to end at Channel Seven.

While getting my hair styled at the salon for business reasons, I received a surprising phone call. After 17 devoted years with the network, they informed me that it was time for me to move on.

She described her last stint at the network as “unbearably unpleasant,” and she was relieved to be leaving.

Although I’m disappointed with this outcome, I can’t deny feeling a bit lighter as well. The last few weeks on TV have unfortunately brought nothing but misery to watch, as the news has made clear.

In simpler terms, a large number of skilled, devoted, and committed workers have been let go during a prolonged period, apparently as part of an extended effort to gradually dismiss surplus staff, following management’s decision.

I’ve had the privilege of following some truly exceptional content creators in this industry. Their talent and dedication never cease to impress me. It’s been a painful experience, however, to witness their struggles and challenges along the way.

Sharyn expressed her dislike for the network’s new format of its news shows, featuring comedian Mark Humphries in recurring sketches and astrology segments.

Ghidella added, “I don’t care for evening news that includes jokes and horoscopes. To put it bluntly, I think it’s time for me to leave.”

In her fiery final post, she expressed gratitude to the numerous friends she’d gained during her extended tenure at the network.
