Axed Channel Nine quiz heads for reboot at rival network – but will host Eddie McGuire be back?

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to announce that the beloved quiz show, Millionaire Hot Set, hosted by Eddie McGuire, is set for a fresh start on Channel Ten!

Originally airing on Nine, the network gave the fan favourite the axe in 2024 after 25,00 episodes.

Now, producers of the reboot have announced a casting call with entries closing on September 15.

Additionally, there’s considerable chatter within the television industry that the new host could potentially be female.

Based on an article in The Herald Sun published on Sunday, whispers within the network have persisted for several months that preparations are advanced to secure a woman for the coveted role.

Curio Pictures, creators behind Shark Tank and the streaming drama The Artful Dodger, have shared exciting news with aspiring participants: Filming for the upcoming series is set to start in Melbourne next month.

On the producer’s website, an invitation was posted encouraging people to demonstrate their intelligence for a chance to secure a substantial prize.

As an enthusiastic and self-assured trivia fanatic, hailing from any background, seize this opportunity! Your relentless passion for trivia could pave the way to substantial earnings – if you possess the required skills!

Channel Ten has not confirmed when the quiz reboot will air.

The network shared that they are eager to unveil their 2026 content updates for both channels, 10 and Paramount+, during their upcoming Upfront event within the next several months.

Audience members felt quite disheartened when it was revealed that Nine had decided to temporarily halt the airing of The Millionaire Hot Seat as early as 2023.

For many years, the longest-running game show on Australian television has awarded millions to its competitors.

Eddie shared on 3AW this morning that, filled with a mix of pride, happiness, and sorrow, he is announcing that Millionaire Hot Seat will be taking a break starting at the end of January next year.

At 5 pm, there’s going to be a special show on the Nine Network instead of our regular programming, as we celebrate reaching our 25-year milestone in 2024.

It brings me joy that a lot of people shared memories with their grandparents by watching the show together.

In total, there were four individuals who were millionaires, with two hailing from each of the shows… However, a considerable number of winners walked away with either $250,000 or $500,000, as Eddie pointed out.

Eddie mentioned that he enjoyed hosting the program since it allowed him to interact with individuals from various backgrounds throughout Australia.

He mentioned that one aspect he appreciates is witnessing diverse Australia on the show, with individuals expressing their cultural backgrounds and sexual identities openly. It offers a glimpse into Australia’s society, he added.

Every individual has their unique tale, faced challenges in their journey, not asking for grand favors, merely seeking some positive moments to brighten their path.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire switched to the Hot Seat version in 2009.

Eddie had hosted Who Wants to be a Millionaire since its premiere in 1999.

The show returned with reruns in January 2024 and was ultimately replaced by Tipping Point.
