Awkward moment Richard Wilkins is mistaken for Hollywood star while reporting in London – and you won’t believe his response

This week, Richard Wilkins found himself feeling exasperated when viewers disrupted a live broadcast he was doing and mistakenly thought he was someone else who resembles a well-known figure in Hollywood.

The seasoned journalist from Today Show, aged 70, was reporting on the premiere of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning in London. Some local residents, mistaking him for a Baywatch star, warmly welcomed him.

‘Hey, it’s David Hasselhoff!’ the fans yelped.

An annoyed Wilkins did not mince words when reprimanding them for interrupting his report.

‘Hey, will you give us a break for five minutes, please?’ Wilkins asked.

Later on, they posted the video on social media, accompanied by this message: “There’s no better feeling than encountering your role model.

The clip caught the attention of Wilkins himself, who responded with a cheeky comment. 

‘Don’t hassle the Hoff,’ Wilkins commented.

‘Midnight live crosses can be challenging!’ 

Wilkins and David Hasselhoff, who are both 72 years old, have a notable similarity in their physical appearance. They both have tall builds, wide shoulders, and stylishly coiffed dark hair as a shared trait.

They both share a charismatic on-screen presence and showbiz longevity into their 70s. 

It comes after Wilkins shared a very surprising photo with notorious fan of heights Tom Cruise.

The Channel Nine entertainment news personality posted a picture showing him with the well-known Hollywood actor, both in London, talking about the actor’s newest Mission Impossible film titled “The Final Reckoning.

Many people were struck by the noticeable difference in height between the two gentlemen, as Wilkins seemed significantly taller compared to the 62-year-old Cruise.

In this photograph, Wilkins appears closer to the viewer, which makes it seem like there’s a larger height difference between them, despite the fact that the individual from Today is actually quite a bit taller.

Richard cuts an imposing figure at 1.88m (or 6’1″) while Tom stands at a reported 1.7m (5’6″).

‘Tom looks like he’s come out of a Kinder Surprise egg,’ one follower joked.

Referring to the odd angle of the picture, someone commented: ‘The photograph seems off-kilter – I’m aware that Tom Cruise is short, but something about this image appears distorted.’
